StockX today announced a collaboration with Hong Kong-based contemporary artist Michael Lau on a <\/span>special edition of the artist\u2019s iconic SALVATOR MICHAEL character. Limited to just 99 units, the SALVATOR MICHAEL \u201cStockX\u201d art toy features a green and white colorway and will be available exclusively on StockX starting <\/span>Wednesday, August 18 <\/b>at <\/span>1 AM EST \/ 1 PM HKT<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The product will be released via DropX, StockX\u2019s direct-to-consumer product release method that gives brands the opportunity to release exclusive products directly to the platform\u2019s global audience. Launched in August of 2020, DropX was created to further amplify and support brands and creatives around the world who are at the forefront of current culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea for this project was conceived after StockX launched its Hong Kong authentication center in 2020, and I\u2019m excited to see our work come to fruition,\u201d said Michael Lau. \u201cStockX is known as the go-to platform for the most culturally relevant, of the moment products and brands, and therefore was a perfect collaborator for my latest SALVATOR MICHAEL collectible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The next generation of consumers is drawn to limited-release products that boast cultural ties as well as investment opportunity, which is fueling a rise in demand for collectibles. On StockX, the number of buyers purchasing collectibles increased by more than 260% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same time period in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Often referred to as the \u201cGodfather of Designer Toys,\u201d Michael Lau was one of the pioneers of the collectible figures space. His earliest SALVATOR MICHAEL figure was a reimagination of da Vinci\u2019s Salvator Mundi, first introduced in 2018 at the \u2018Collect them All!\u2019 exhibition at Christie\u2019s Hong Kong. Since then, the figure has been reinvented and featured at exhibitions around the world, from Art Basel in Hong Kong to Oh…My Toy! in London.
