Once while water-skiing, designer Tinker Hatfield saw how the neoprene booties he was wearing were molding to his feet. Inspired, he developed the Nike Huarache. Afficher plus
Hatfield knew that other shoes at the time did not conform to different foot shapes the same way that the neoprene types did. His investigation into neoprene spawned a new way for athletic shoes to envelop the foot. The most unique aspect of the Huarache is that it stripped away paneling around the ankle. Focusing on the instep and heel fit, the Huarache molds to your particular foot shape. Deemed the "Sneaker of the Gods" by Sandy Bodecker, Hatfield began the construction around an exoskeleton that resembled a sandal. Because of the focus on fit, these shoes were created for athletes, starting with the original running shoe silhouette. Nike launched the first Huarache model in 1991. The Black Black White and the White Platinum colorways became instant classics. Later, Hatfield would expand the shoe design into cross training and then basketball. Later Huarache shoes would include Air Flight, Air Trainer, Light, Ultra and Utility.
