Released in 2008, the sleek Nike Zoom Kobe 4 was a challenge to the basketball world. Eric Avar started with the tech when designing this unconventional shoe. Afficher plus
The Nike Zoom Kobe 4 was a different kind of sneaker. When it was released, the Kobe 4 was the lowest-cut basketball shoe Nike had ever released. This challenged the conventional wisdom that high-tops were the best shoes for the sport. For years, coaches and players had believed that a higher top protected against ankle injuries. However, Bryant knew from watching soccer that there are sports that place huge demands on the ankle and do so in low-tops. Bryant's idea was that in a lighter shoe, the foot and particularly the ankle could move more naturally. He wanted to be unencumbered by anything inessential. This was controversial at the time. In the years since its release, the Kobe 4 has come to be appreciated for its great features including Flywire, LunarLite foam and a Nike Zoom heel. Recent re-releases include the Kobe 4 Protro Undefeated in Fir/Multi-Color and Purple/University Gold-White. Bolder colorways include the Black and Neon Kobe 4 Protro Wizenard in Multi-Color/Black-Volt.
