How can I tell if an email or notification is genuinely from StockX?

4/1/2024

Phishing is an attempt by scammers online to get you to divulge personal information like credit card numbers, passwords or other details by posing as a legitimate business or individual.

How can I tell if an email or notification is genuinely from StockX?

Official emails from StockX will never request payments or submissions of financial data via a 3rd-party website or vendor. In addition, emails from StockX will come from [email protected] or [email protected].

If you receive a suspicious-looking email, text or notification claiming to be from StockX, please follow these three steps:

  1. Do not click any of the links or open any attachments within the email—these might take you to fraudulent sites designed to steal your personal information or download malware onto your computer.

  2. Contact our Customer Service team. Once you’ve been connected with a Customer Service team mate, you will have the option to report the issue by forwarding the email to us.

  3. Delete the email after forwarding it to StockX.

What do phishing attempts usually look like?

Phishing emails often seek to emulate legitimate businesses  and may even contain facsimiles of company logos, official-looking email templates and messaging that may seem similar to StockX or another legitimate site.

Generally, these phishing attempts have the same goal – to encourage you to click a link to a fraudulent website where you'll be prompted to provide sensitive information such as your account password, social security number or something similar.

How can I spot a potentially fraudulent link?

It might not always be immediately apparent whether a website is fraudulent. In some cases, the site may look extremely similar to the website the scammer is attempting to impersonate.

In general, you should always check to see if you can spot any of the following if you click a suspicious link:

  • your browser warns you this may be a malicious website when you access it
  • The URL starts with http:// instead of https://
    • NB: An official website will always have a lock icon on the left-hand side of the browser address bar.
  • The URL looks overly complex or suspicious. URLs within StockX will always begin with "https://www.stockx.com" or "https://stockx.com".

What should I do if I've already provided sensitive information via a fraudulent link claiming to be from StockX?

If you've already opened a link to a potentially fraudulent website or provided personal information to a suspicious communication, there are a few steps you will need to take to ensure that your information and account haven't been compromised:

  • Change your StockX password. Make sure it’s complex and isn’t used on other sites.

  • update your password on any other websites where you use the same email and password combination

  • If you've entered payment information, contact your financial institution to verify if your information has been compromised.
