StockX currently mints NFTs as ERC-1155 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, though we may use other blockchain technology in the future.
ERC-1155 is an Ethereum standard that outlines a smart contract (automatically executed when predetermined terms and conditions are met) that can represent any number of semi-fungible and non-fungible token types. It is a multi-token standard allowing for each token ID to represent a new configurable token type, each with its own metadata, variable supply, and other attributes.
This standard enables StockX to mint one smart contract under one token on Ethereum with any number of NFT editions. When you buy an ERC-1155 NFT on StockX, you are buying one edition of the token, just like you could buy one quantity of a physical good. ERC-721 is a single-token standard, with fixed supply of 1 and a unique smart contract that solely applies to this unique token.
Note that StockX may not always mint NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Please refer to the fine print in the Product Details > Product Description section for the blockchain information applicable to a particular NFT.
