Perhaps one of the most legendary moments in the history of Penny Hardaway sneakers came in 1995 when Michael Jordan reportedly asked for a pair of Nike Penny Hardaway Air Flight Ones to wear in a game between the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic, the only time MJ ever wore a non-Jordan shoe on court. In 1995, Nike released the first Air Pennys, crafted by sneaker designer Eric Avar. Penny's light and quick style of play was the inspiration for what would become an iconic shoe line. The Blue/Metallic Silver-White-Black Nike Air Penny II and the Black/Varsity Royal-White Nike Air Penny I are some of the most coveted hoop sneakers of all time. In 2011, Nike decided to bring back the coveted classics. Although the new line was a redesign, they still have the retro feel of the classic Nike Air Flight One series.
