The Louis Vuitton x Supreme collection was one of the most anticipated collaborations to ever grace the runway. Over a year after its release, interest and investments in the seamlessly cool, yet stylish line of products has only grown. This fall, the Louis Vuitton x Supreme Malle Courrier Trunk, one of the partnership’s most exclusive and rare pieces was sold on StockX for a whopping $70,000, making it the most expensive item ever sold in our marketplace to date. The trunk was never available for the public to purchase, and was instead only sold to select Louis Vuitton VIP customers.  Typically, when a sale goes through, sellers ship their items to StockX for authentication. In this case, given the unique qualities of the LV trunk, we decided to do things a little differently. Specifically, we dispatched Michelle, one of our experts in the field of luxury authentication, to travel to an undisclosed location and authenticate the item in person. Everything from the wood paneling, to the lock and key, to the unique red and white LV x Supreme monogram canvas was thoroughly examined and deemed authentic. After Michelle’s expert verification, this one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton x Supreme trunk was safely sent off to its new home. Louis Vuitton launched in 1858 as a luggage company and revolutionized travel with the design of their easily transportable trunks. This LV x Supreme Malle Courier Trunk is a modern reincarnation of the fashion house’s original product. The LV x Supreme trunk has been listed on StockX since it debuted in 2017, and at various times, it garnered scattered Asks and Bids. But it was not until September 25th that we finally saw a sale. We’ve had expensive items sell on StockX before, from a $32,000 Nike Air MAG to a $22,000 Rolex Datona. But previous records were dwarfed by the trunk sale. The $70,000 resale price represented a small but significant increase over the trunk’s original $68,500 retail price. And the price tag was somewhat low compared to other sales mentioned in the press. (Last May, HighSnobiety reported that one trunk had sold at auction for more than $100,000). That said, there’s every reason to believe the trunk will continue to appreciate in value as time goes on. Most of the items from the 2017 LV x Supreme collection have seen their resale prices increase over the last year. In the past month, select pieces like the Brazza Wallet or the Danube PM have sold for as much as twice the price that they were reselling for one year ago on StockX. And while most other Supreme x LV items have enjoyed much smaller gains, the fact remains that resale prices are steadily increasing across the board. So it is quite possible that the same trunk may be selling for much more than $70,000 a year from now.
