The Rookies
Undoubtedly the two hottest young players in the NBA, Luka Doncic and Trae Young both caught fire in their first NBA season. The duo will be forever linked, due to the blockbuster trade that saw the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks swap selections on draft night in June 2018. This trade, however, may be one of the rare instances that worked out for both teams, as the franchises seem equally thrilled with the results. As the 2018-19 NBA season heated up, both Doncic and Young were jockeying for position in the Rookie of the Year race. There were times when each was seen as the favorite, and then the other would put up a startling stat line or must-see play that seemingly pushed the two to play at the top of their games and exceed draft day expectations throughout the season.
Perhaps the most anticipated basketball set to release in 2018, the 2018-19 Panini Prizm set launched in late November of 2018, just as the two rookies were heating up. Unsurprisingly, shortly following the set’s release, prices for both player’s cards shot up in value as they built their respective cases to be named the NBA’s top rookie. Ultimately Luka Doncic would take home the honors, but there’s no doubt that these two rookie cards will be collector’s items for ages to come. For this edition of StockX Select, the winner will take home a PSA 10 (PSA’s highest possible grade) Silver version of each Rookie Card. The Vet
When you think of veterans in the collectibles scene, Takashi Murakami stands nearly alone as one of the originators of collectible art figure designers. Alongside his contemporaries like KAWS & Futura, Murakami stands in elite company as one of the veterans in the collectibles game, debuting the DOB character in 1993. Murakami is best known for this lovable DOB figure, along with the ever-present flower-like designs that he’s been putting out for years in the form of plush toys.
