Please introduce yourself. Describe what you do for a living and how you are adjusting to the new normal.

Hello there! My name is Rhoxanne (Rhoxy) Villaseñor and I create and bring people together. I’m also the designer for the earrings line, RHOX. It’s definitely an interesting time right now. I’m quarantining alone and it was difficult in the beginning since there’s no interaction with anyone, but I’m a loner anyway so I’ve embraced solitude. Taking it day by day, staying positive and active, but also being gentle with myself.

How do you typically start your day? What daily rituals keep you balanced?

I wake up around 830am. I start my day with a prayer, always. Starting the day with gratitude makes a huge difference. I like to take my time and try not to check my phone right away. With so much going on, boundaries are important. Then, I make my bed, brush my teeth. I’ve also started drinking coffee, so I’ll make coffee. After that, I read “The Book of Awakening” by Mark Nepo which is a daily spiritual book. And depending on how I feel, I do some journaling. When that’s all done, I clean my place, water my plants (if needed), make breakfast and work out. I use an app for my strength training, yoga and I also went back to running and it’s been great.

This is pretty much my routine every morning. I like structure – it’s the Virgo in me.

What accomplishment or new project are you most proud of?

During this time, I’ve stayed positive, high spirits, and grounded. Very calm – a lot of it has to do with your mindset. I’ve also turned into a chef, a barista, and a runner lol. And launching RHOX. I’ve been working on it for the past year and a half and finally launched it in Feb. Working with incredible women, who are also my dear friends, has been an honor and makes the journey that much more exciting because we’re all in it together. I’m happy to be in a creative space again.

Are you planning to do social distance friendly activities now that some states have opened back up?

Yes and no. I’m still careful where I go and who I’m around.

What advice would you give to someone who’s struggling during these times?

Call, Facetime, don’t hesitate to connect with your circle. We are all in this together and you’d be surprised to find out we’re all feeling the same thing and coping with this the same way. Acknowledge your feelings and talk to someone about it. I also advise spending time with nature. Go for a walk, put your phone away, and be present. Now that we’re all forced to slow down, try to find beauty in the little things – the things we usually take for granted.

Do things that feed your soul. Things that make you happy and bring you joy, and keep in mind it doesn’t have to be anything grand.

What have been your favorite quarantine fits?

Sweats, sweatshirts – cozy fits for sure! Athleisure aesthetic all the way.

What has been your most unexpected quarantine purchase?

Lol, I bought an air fryer and a laser hair removal device! Both were great purchases by the way.

How are you staying close to your loved ones/keeping in contact with people right now?

I spend time with my family a lot more than ever. I’m actually really grateful for this time because I was always working and weekends I was also working so I would always miss family dinners, outings. Now I have time to be with them, create memories. My brothers and I got into biking. I go for walks with friends as well, still practicing social distancing and Facetime calls. Facetime is a lifesaver! I’m also a part of a book club with my close friends which has been amazing.

What are you most looking forward to once this is over?

To not wear face masks anymore lol. I’m looking forward to seeing the change in our environment, people, and system. Moving too fast, you’re not aware of what’s happening and with solitude, you’re able to gain clarity and perspective. I’m hoping to see growth.

What have you learned about yourself during this time? Will you integrate that knowledge into your day-to-day moving forward?

I learned I really enjoy my alone time and my place – I’ve created a sanctuary for myself. I feel happy, safe being in my space. I’ve also bought a total of 8 more plants during this time. I’ve learned how much I enjoy cooking. This is the most consistent I have been with my overall health. I think we’re all guilty of neglecting ourselves being always on the go, so I’ve been spending a lot of time watering myself. I’ve learned that boundaries are crucial for growth and self-discipline is golden.

I’m already someone who thrives to learn about myself more and more. The goal is to practice and implement those new discoveries into my day to day and share it with people. We’re all connected in some capacity and we can all learn from each other.
