The “Flu Game” is one of the most iconic moments in Michael Jordan’s career. And subsequently, so is the Air Jordan 12.
On June 11, 1997 against the Utah Jazz, Michael Jordan was experiencing “flu-like” symptoms. The Jazz were up by as many as 16 points in the second quarter but Michael being Michael, refused to give in, despite appearing obviously under the weather. MJ’s performance was beyond his usual greatness. In fact, Marv Albert called it “heroic.”
Jordan finished with 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and a block before being assisted off the court by Scottie Pippen. The Bulls went on to take the series for their 5th NBA Championship but MJ’s Flu Game performance was legendary. So much so that the “Playoff” Jordan 12 in black and red has been commonly referred to by sneakerheads as the “Flu Game” 12s ever since.
The black and red Air Jordan 12 retro is just one of the upcoming Jordan releases we’re looking forward to. The Flu Game Jordan 12 releases on May 28th, 2016.
