As we\u2019ve seen in years past, when Tudor gets it right, they get really right. This year, Tudor got it right. The Black Bay family has been a fan favorite since its release in 2012, and has seen a variety of colorways, bezels, the incorporation of in-house movements, and even a foray into chronograph territory. The family just got a bit bigger with the addition of the new Black Bay GMT, a watch that hits all the right notes, striking a perfect balance between \u201cheritage inspired\u201d and \u201crefreshingly contemporary\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

The “Pepsi” bezel is no stranger within the Rolex family, and in fact, Rolex released their own version this year as well (more on that later), but what Tudor has done with the Black Bay GMT is noteworthy for a few reasons, aside from the fact that it looks amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n

First, a bit about the design. Tudor has resisted the temptation to use \u201cpre-aged\u201d lume to give the dial an artificially vintage feel. The hour plots and chapter ring are clean white, set against a matte black dial. The bezel itself is slightly desaturated, and features demure sans-serif numerals marking off 24 hours. The dial hosts minimal copy consisting of the Tudor shield and logo at 12 o\u2019clock (side note, anyone else miss the rose?), and the copy \u201cGMT Chronometer Officially Certified\u201d at 6 o\u2019clock. A set of snowflake hands and a red GMT hand tie everything together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the 41mm steel case beats an all-new, Tudor Built automatic movement (Caliber MT6552). This follows a trend we first saw with the North Flag back in 2015. Tudor has introduced their own movements into all models of the Black Bay, including the Chronograph that we saw introduced last year. This all makes the starting price of CHF 3,400 all the more remarkable.<\/span><\/p>\n
