Going along with its name, Next introduces brand new, uniquely-inspired menus every four months, and the ever-changing restaurant is no stranger to recognition from local critics and world restaurant rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about Chef Ed Tinoco in his &#8220;That&#8217;s 5 Chicago&#8221; below.<\/p>\n<p><em>The following has been lightly edited for length and clarity.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How has Chicago influenced you?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As a native New Yorker, I have to admit that the stereotype of midwestern hospitality is true. People here in Chicago are welcoming, humble, honest, extremely hardworking, and real. As a result of all these attributes, I\u2019ve found that it\u2019s been so easy to connect and contribute to the creative culture of this city. People are open, accepting, and there\u2019s a competitive yet friendly spirit that pushes people to create new concepts. They come across as narcissistic, selfish, and lacking a true and authentic personality. People with that kind of power, attention, and following should use their influence to promote society instead of themselves. I\u2019d love to see influencers use social media as a platform to educate others about their craft, instead of choosing a filter that makes their life look better than reality.<\/p>\n<p>Also extremely overrated: La Croix. That shit sucks.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is most underrated, right now?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>J. Cole, kombucha, YouTube, plants. And Jalapeno Cheetos. Don\u2019t compare yourself to \u201cinfluencers.&#8221; Don\u2019t focus on what\u2019s going on in New York or LA or anywhere else but where you are. Aim for the sky, be your best self, and the time will come for you to stand out in Chicago.
