Omega<\/a> pushes the Aqua Terra into experimental territory once again with the release today of the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light. The watch packs a few surprises and could represent a new direction for sport watches at Omega. The Seamaster name on the dial may be familiar, but this Aqua Terra is entirely new both inside and out. The changes go well beyond the typical visual cues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Omega is no stranger to using titanium, and the Ultra Light takes it a step further with alloy they\u2019re calling <\/span>Gamma Titanium<\/span><\/i>. The case, caseback, and crown are all constructed from the stuff, and the net result is a watch that weighs a scant 55 grams. For reference, a Rolex Submariner weighs 155 grams, and the $725,000 Richard Mille RM27-03 that Nadal wears while playing, weighs 34 grams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just the material that keeps the weight off. Omega have stripped complications like the date from the movement, and even taken material directly out of the dial, using the minimal amount possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The movement is entirely new, dubbed the Caliber 8928 Titanium, with plates and bridges constructed from, you guessed it, titanium. It\u2019s a hand wind affair (those oscillating weights are, well, weight) and features an astronomical 15,000 gauss of magnetic resistance. It is Master Chronometer certified as well, which will keep you within 0\/+5 seconds per day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All this might sound like the makings of a limited edition, especially when you consider the *clears throat* $48,600 price tag.
