Almost a year in, Kanye West’s Yeezy x GAP partnership is looking like a success. The pairing’s first collaborative jacket officially released last June and, since then, more than 44,000 apparel pieces from the Yeezy GAP partnership have been resold on StockX. Though Yeezy GAP is still in its relative infancy, Kanye West has already brought in his good friend Demna Gvasalia, creative director of Balenciaga and formerly of Vetements, for additional collaborative juice. The Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga Dove ¾ Sleeve T-shirt released in February as a part of the collection’s first delivery. With a second release expected to come from Yeezy GAP and Balenciaga as soon as the 27th of May, we’re highlighting the most popular piece from the first drop as this week’s StockX Pick of the Week.
The first delivery of the Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga partnership happened in a whirlwind of Kanye West content releases. The collection was made available for purchase on February 22nd, 2022, the same day as the listening party and release for his most-recent album DONDA 2, which was made available exclusively through his Stem Player medium. Additionally, all of this was taking place at the same time as the release of the long-awaited three part Jeen-Yuhs documentary with Netflix about the artist. All of this is to say that if you missed the first Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga release, that’s totally understandable, there was a lot going on in the world of Kanye.
The Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga Dove ¾ Sleeve T-shirt has been the most popular piece from the partnership’s first release so far. As was to be expected from a collaboration between Kanye West and Balenciaga, this piece confidently strays away from the design of a traditional t-shirt in a couple ways. In terms of graphics, it features a large black GAP logo on the chest and a white dove logo on the back. What really sets this t-shirt apart though is the way it plays with proportions as it features ¾ length sleeves, a lot of room in the body, and a mock-neck collar. Like most of what’s been released by Yeezy GAP so far, the t-shirt most closely resembles the type of clothing that Kanye West wears himself.
Though this t-shirt was made available as a part of the first delivery of the Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga partnership back in February, the beige and grey colorways have still yet to ship. Unfortunately for fans, only the black colorways of apparel from Yeezy GAP and Balenciaga have shipped so far, and it’s likely that the other colors may not be delivered until later this summer. While we don’t quite know for sure, it’s expected that the second release from Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga will also come with lengthy shipping times.
Yeezy GAP and Balenciaga’s second release comes just a few days after the luxury brand hosted a viral runway show in New York City for their Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The show featured the New York Stock Exchange as a runway where models wore the brand’s upcoming styles over gimp fetish bodysuits. Balenciaga’s recently confirmed collaboration with adidas, which will feature a collaborative Balenciaga x adidas Triple S sneaker, was also shown as a part of the collection. This might mean that we could potentially get a four-way collaboration between Yeezy, GAP, Balenciaga, and adidas in the future as all four parties seem to be simultaneously weaving in and out of each other’s worlds.
