How do editions work on NFTs?

This FAQ explains how edition limits work for NFTs on our platform, including special cases like Vault NFTs. Understanding these details can help you make informed decisions when buying and collecting NFTs.

Edition Limits
Certain NFTs, including Vault NFTs, may have a maximum set number of editions. This indicates the total number of NFTs that can ever exist for that specific item. Other NFTs may be "open editions" with no limit on the number available.

Your Purchase
Regardless of the edition type, when you buy an NFT, you'll receive a single, unique edition of that item.

Maximum Editions
If an NFT has a listed maximum number of editions, there will never be more than that amount in existence. However, the actual number in circulation at any given time might be lower. This could happen for a few reasons:
  • Vault NFT Redemption: If someone redeems the physical item associated with their Vault NFT, we'll remove ("burn") that NFT from circulation.
  • Partial Release: Sometimes we might release only a portion of an NFT edition at first.
  • Minting Limits: While a maximum number might be listed, we can't guarantee that the full amount will ever be created and sold.
