Since the release of their Junya Watanabe collaboration at the beginning of November, Supreme has been consistently delivering big drops only. Last week, they released their first Box Logo Hoodies of the year and this weekā€™s Supreme offering includes several Pick of the Week worthy pieces. Week 17 featured both a The North Face collection, which marks the pairā€™s second partnership of the season, and their most anticipated accessory of the year, the Supreme RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver. 3.0 Action Figure. While this weekā€™s Supreme The North Face collaboration is likely the duoā€™s strongest collection of the year, itā€™s still no match for the all-red Gundam figure.

Supremeā€™s RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 Action Figure is a 1/100 scale model of Mobile Suit Gundamā€™s RX-78-2 Gundam. In the Gundam universe, RX-78-2 Gundam is the titular character of the fictional world, making him the original. For their exclusive version of the action figure, Supreme has turned the traditionally grey, blue, and yellow Gundam entirely red plus, the figure features a large Supreme logo on its shield and several smaller logos on its chest and kneecaps. The Supreme RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 Action Figure is also made entirely of recycled plastic making it a solid choice for the sustainability-conscious collector.

Gundam has been having a moment in 2021. Like a lot of other nostalgia-focused collectibles, Gundam has seen a resurgence in popularity over the last few years that is now culminating in high-profile collaborations. Prior to their collaborative figure with Supreme, Gundam has spent the second half of this year releasing sneakers and collectibles with Nike SB. In September, the pair delivered their first set of collaborative action figures, both of which now trade on StockX for more than $5,000. In November, Nike and Gundam dropped an SB Dunk and earlier this month, they released two more figures. With 2021 collaborations with the likes of Nike and Supreme, itā€™s clear that Gundam is looking to establish itself as a serious presence in the collectible toy world moving forward.

For Supreme, the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 Action Figure marks the second time this year that the streetwear brand has delivered a collaborative toy. Over the last few seasons, Supreme has made the release of toys a more regular occurrence. Since Fall/Winter 2018, the brandā€™s collaborative toys have become some of the most anticipated accessories of the season. Whether it be through remote control cars, a Steiff Teddy Bear, a Chucky Doll, Nerf Guns, or Gundam Action Figures, Supreme has found a new hit category of accessory. Take the Supreme Nerf Guns which were made available earlier this year for instance. The blue version of the Nerf Gun is the third most popular Supreme accessory released in Spring/Summer 2021 and the pink version is the fifth most popular. Looking back at last yearā€™s Fall/Winter 2020 season, the Supreme Chucky Doll is the most popular accessory from that season in the last twelve months as well. As 2021 comes to a close, itā€™s important to note that both of Supremeā€™s major toy collaborations were released in partnership with some of the biggest toy manufacturers and brands in the world, and itā€™s not a stretch to say that the streetwear brand is just getting started.
