Over the course of their most recent season, Palace has delivered back-to-back high profile collaborations. The brand kicked off the spring season with the Detroit Tigers, the Michigan city’s Major League Baseball team. Since then, Palace has collaborated with Reebok, Elton John, Mercedes-AMG and most recently, Calvin Klein. The collaborative collection with Calvin Klein is Palace’s largest of the season so far, more than doubling the offerings of their other partnerships this year. The two brands made good on their effort, delivering collaborative versions of both parties’ most iconic apparel pieces, including the Palace x Calvin Klein Tri-Ferg Hoodie.
Palace’s Tri-Ferg logo is by far the London label’s most identifiable brand mark. Designed and named after graphic designer Fergus Purcell, the Tri-Ferg logo features a Penrose Triangle with the word “PALACE” found on the edges and repeated on all three sides. This logo can be found on a number of Palace’s most popular pieces and has been worn in public by celebrities like Jonah Hill and A$AP Rocky. Pieces that feature the Tri-Ferg logo in its most coveted form, boldly coloured and large and on the back of a t-shirt, hoodie or crewneck, are released in limited quantities and traditionally sell out immediately.
It would only make sense then, that for their largest collaboration of the season so far, Palace has released their most sought after piece in partnership with Calvin Klein. The collaborative version of this hoodie does little to change the traditional logo, opting instead to take the maximal print and minimalise it in classic Calvin Klein fashion. Released in four tonal colourways, the Palace x Calvin Klein Tri-Ferg Hoodie shifts two of the uses of “Palace” in the Penrose Triangle to “Calvin” and “Klein”, and shrinks it from a full back print to a small chest pocket placement. The result is a minimalist version of what has traditionally been seen as Palace’s most maximal piece, something that fans of both brands will greatly appreciate.
In total, the Palace x Calvin Klein collaboration included a total of 46 new apparel items, accessories, and even sneakers. Aside from the Tri-Ferg Hoodie, this collection also included some of Calvin Klein’s most iconic offerings. The pieces that stand out most are the collaborative undies, of which Palace x Calvin Klein offers an extremely inclusive range of several of the American brands’ styles. In terms of men’s underwear, the partnership has delivered three packs of woven boxers, boxer briefs, and the Palace x Calvin Klein trunk. Palace’s product description writer seems particularly excited about the three-pack of Trunks, referring to them as the most iconic underwear on the planet, which, thanks to the historic 90s campaign with Mark Wahlberg, is true. Additionally, Palace and Calvin Klein released their own collaborative scent of CK ONE cologne, which apparently features notes of frosted mandarin, white sandalwood, and lemon. Palace’s founder, Lev Tanju, can be seen in the two brand’s collaborative promotional video describing the scent as “clean, refreshing, youthful, modern, and energetic.”
This collaboration also featured the inclusion of a three-way partnership, bringing Vans into the mix for the first-ever CALVANS collaboration. Void of any official Palace branding, the single pair of white sneakers is covered in the collaborative CALVANS logo, a mashup of the Calvin Klein and Vans brand marks. The addition of a Vans sneaker to a jam-packed partnership shows Palace’s commitment to delivering everything they can when it comes to collaborations, and as this one moves into the rearview mirror, it’ll be interesting to see if London’s most popular streetwear brand can keep the hits coming.
