This week, MSCHF gives us their first Blur figure of 2022, while global supply chain issues have caused delays with trading card releases that were expected.

The issues with the global supply chain have been impacting several industries over the course of the last year and trading cards have been no exception. This week, all of the new trading card releases that were on the calendar have been pushed back to later dates. However, the Brooklyn-based art collective, MSCHF is giving us their first drop of 2022 in the form of a new Blur sculpture, plus several Funko Pop! figures round out the releases for the week. Read up on all of these releases and more in the latest edition of The Rip.

MSCHF Blur ₩50,000 Won Figure

It has now been over a year since MSCHF launched their first viral Blur figure. The first “eCommerce performance art piece” was simply entitled Blur, with a product image that appeared to be a fuzzy image of a stack of US $20 bills. MSCHF sold the figures with the disclaimer that all sales were final, in order to learn what exactly it was, you’d have to purchase the product. When buyers received the item in the coming weeks they learned that it was exactly what MSCHF had advertised, a six-inch sculpture depicting a blurry stack of $20 bills.

Since that initial release, MSCHF has released two additional blur figures portraying a stack of ¥100 and €50 notes. MSCHF is now releasing their fourth figure in this series, the MSCHF Blur ₩50,000 Won Figure. Much like the previous sculptures in the collection, the MSCHF Blur ₩50,000 Won Figure measures just over six inches tall and shows a blurry stack of ₩50,000 notes, the official currency of South Korea.

The MSCHF Blur ₩50,000 Won Figure was released on January 17th for a retail price of $35.

Funko Soda Marvel Spider-Man

It has been only a month since Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theatres and we are being graced with the first Funko Soda celebrating the latest Marvel film. Like all figures in the Funko Soda collection, this Marvel Spider-Man Figure comes in a common and Chase Edition. The common figure shows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in his upgraded suit that was seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home where the classic red and blue suit was swapped out for a red and black version. The Chase Edition of the figure shows Spider-Man in his newest threads with flash gold accents on an all black suit.

The Funko Soda Marvel Spider-Man Figures were released on January 17th for a retail price of $13 and can be found wherever Funko collectibles are sold.

Funko Soda Disney Fantasia Figures

A pair of Funko Soda Disney figures are releasing this week inspired by the 1940 musical classic, Fantasia. The first features the iconic Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Mouse with a regular figure, and a rarer Chase Edition of the figure. Both four inch vinyl figures come packaged in identical Funko Soda cans that display Mickey dressed in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice robe and hat, strutting with a grin across his face. The difference is between the figures themselves. The regular figure showing Mickey in his red robe, and wizard hat featuring moon and star motifs with his hands extended out appearing to be conjuring a spell. The Chase Edition of the figure, on the other hand, has Mickey in the same clothes, but he is carrying two buckets of water just like in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice scene in Fantasia.

The second Funko Soda Disney Figure releasing captures Chernabog, the demon from the Night on Bald Mountain and Ave Maria segments that serve as the final act of Fantasia. The regular version of the figure is finished in a matte dark blue, with Chernabog rising out of a similarly colored mountain top. The Chase Edition features a reflective blue finish, and includes splashes of purple on the inner parts of the demon’s wings, and changes the mountain color to black.

Both Funko Soda Disney figures were officially released on January 17th for a retail price of $13 wherever Funko collectibles are sold.

Funko Soda DC Green Lantern Figures

The Funko Soda DC Green Lantern figures feature the comic book portrayal of Kyle Rayner as The Green Lantern. The common figure shows Rayner donning his usual green and black suit, holding one gloved hand that bears his power ring, across his chest, while his other hand is clutching a lantern. The Chase Edition of the figure sees Rayner in the same pose, but he is dressed in the white and silver suit that he wears in Green Lantern Volume 4 #52. The lantern in his left hand is also updated from the green one seen with the common figure, to a clean white that matches his uniform.

The Funko Soda DC Green Lantern Figures were released on January 17th for a retail price of $13 wherever Funkno collectibles are sold.
