Big Sean always feels like home.

It just made sense for us to meet up with Detroit’s hometown hero backstage at Coachella before his blistering set to talk about his style. Never one to miss an opportunity, Sean’s unique shirt featured a quote from American spiritual teacher, Ram Dass: “What you meet in another being is the projection of your own level of evolution,” a fitting reminder from an artist who always evolving. While he made the news for the massive crowd he drew (some saying it might have been the biggest of the night), he was focused on the job in front of him: entertain and inspire the fans who made it all the way to the desert to hear his sound.

StockX: This is your first Coachella in three years. Describe the energy being back here.

Big Sean: Man, I haven’t even seen the energy yet. I just got here. I’m going on late at night, so I hear the energy has been hit or miss for some people. And I’m just here to just, I don’t have any expectations. I’m here to just have a good fucking time, man.

Talk to us about your style inspo for Coachella.

I don’t know. It’s not really too inspired by anything. It’s just kind of what I felt. I felt like putting the leather gloves with the kimono, with what looks like a winter jacket, but it’s just a jacket. I wanted to be monochromatic. You know what I mean?

What do you look for in style? Comfort?

Authenticity. That means that it got to look authentic, it got to look real on you. It can’t look like you trying to do something or be something that you not. Like you could tell the difference always.

Who are you most excited to see?

Myself.

I’m excited to see Baby Keem, Lil Baby, City Girls. I’m excited to see Daniel Caesar. I kind of just been, just focused on what I got to do though.

What are you most excited about right now?

I am most excited about just the way life has unfolded for me, about the music we making, and the choices that God has been blessing us with. That’s all.
