How Casio Is Winning The Watch Game

In a world where digital watches are facing mounting competition thanks to technological trends, Japanese watch maker, Casio, has been able to stay steadfastly relevant. This once humbled startup has transformed into a horological juggernaut, attracting followers from all over and turning watches into necessary accessories. By attaching itself to hip hop culture during its major mainstream rise in the late 2000s/early 2010s, Casio’s popular line, G-Shock, quickly gained notoriety in the watch and streetwear communities. Its novel designs and collaborations make for the perfect entry level pieces, but are still finely crafted to appeal to the tenured watch collector. Casio has continued building its momentum, with its latest release with streetwear giant Kith pushing them even further. Casio continues delivering unpredictable watches, making the digital watch more and more a necessity, showcasing what they have to offer can suit anyone’s style.

KITH GM6900

G-Shock’s recent project with KITH continues to cement the watchmaker as an innovative brand. The two brands introduced a full-metal 6900 for the first time and tying it with a brand like KITH adds a necessary level of hype for such a stellar product. The watch is dressed in an entirely rose gold body with KITH’s logo stamped on both the straps and the luminescent button.

CLOT DW5750

Casio’s continuous effort to keep things interesting can be found in its latest collaboration with CLOT, the Chinese creative group. CLOT has utilized a translucent case body on the DW5750, adding a fresh, never before done take on the model. The watch also comes with nine colorful straps, something that is rare for any brand to offer with a watch.

BAPE GA-110

Whenever BAPE comes together with another brand, it’s an instant hit and its 2018 collaboration with Casio is no different. With both brands being Japanese powerhouses, the organic connection makes this collaboration even more meaningful. The product of the partnership delivered a fresh new look to Casio’s GA-110, being dressed down in the classic BAPE Camo.

Keith Haring DW5600

The first G-Shock ever released in the 1980s at the same time that famous street artist Keith Haring, one of the forefathers of New York City graffiti art, gained worldwide recognition. It took a few decades for them to combine forces, but drawing a connection between the two adds a new level of storytelling to this collaboration. The late artist’s work is featured in the DW5600, displaying the artist’s iconic faceless characters in a variety of colors.
