A History of Supreme Skate Decks

From a single skate store to a global phenomenon, we take a look back at some iconic Supreme decks.

From a single skate store to a global phenomenon, we take a look back at some iconic Supreme decks.

Supreme are the global leaders in must-have streetwear, with collaborations ranging from the likes of Louis Vuitton to Lou Reed over the course of their 27-year history. We want to take it back to their original offering, skate decks, and remind you of some of the brandā€™s legendary designs – all available to trade on StockX.Ā

supreme deck tupac

Tupac Hologram Supreme Deck

In 2012, Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre changed the landscape of live performances forever when they brought out 2Pac in hologram form during their headline set at Coachella. OK, so it wasnā€™t technically a hologram, but it did go down in history. You can own a piece of the performance with Supremeā€™s Tupac deck, released in the Spring/Summer ā€˜20 collection.

Urs Fischer Supreme Decks Triple Set

Traditionally, one might use a clock or an hourglass to signify the passing of time. Urs Fischer isnā€™t a traditional artist. Famed for his still-life and sculpting work, Fischer opted to portray three cigarettes in ever-more decaying states to symbolise the sands of time. Maybe this appeals to your deeper sense of meaning. Maybe you just like cigarettes. Either way, you can pick up the collection from 2016 individually, or as a complete set.

Scarface Supreme Decks Double Set

In the 2000ā€™s you couldnā€™t turn on MTV Cribs without the celebrity homeowner thrusting a DVD of Scarface into the lens. ā€œYou gotta have Scarfaceā€, many would decree. Why not go one better and immortalise Tony Montana on your wall with this double deck set from 2017? Who even has a DVD player these days?

Smurfs Supreme Decks Triple Set

They were probably on your TV when you were eating your cereal as a kid, now they can live on your wall. Seen putting the finishing touches to Supremeā€™s iconic font, the Smurfs decks are available individually or as a triple set in the key company colourways of red, black, and purple. A nice nod to nostalgia and fitting for any fan of weird little blue things that live in the woods.

Medini Supreme Decks Double Set

If you know your postmodern from your Post Malone, then chances are youā€™re already familiar with the work of Alessandro Medini. The artist and architect had a long list of notable collaborations in his portfolio, with the likes of Vacheron Constantin and Cartier amongst the most illustrious. Looking for something a little more in-budget? You canā€™t go wrong with this twin deck pack featuring Mediniā€™s iconic colour palette.Ā

Mike Hill Supreme Decks Quad Set

A legend in the skate industry, the Alien Workshop co-founder created a capsule of tees along with 4 decks for the Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Hill deployed the same method of crafting and photographing dioramas as he did in the early ā€™90s, staying true to his design process and paying homage to the formative years of street skating. Plus, thereā€™s an image of a frog having its brain scooped out with a spoon, so thatā€™s cool.

supreme deck grand prix cruiser

Grand Prix Cruiser Supreme Deck

Ever wondered what a slice of the riviera would look like on a piece of wood? Well, contemplate no more. Adapting an image of the Monaco Grand Prix, Supreme went with a larger cruiser board for this design to give you all the feels of the French coast for a fraction of the price. A must for Formula 1 fans.

Sean Cliver Motel Hell Supreme Deck

Not many have a CV as stacked as Sean Cliver. Initially making his name as a designer at Powell-Peralta, Cliver went on to become one of the founding fathers of Big Brother magazine (the controversial skate publication that gave birth to Jackass). He later set up the increasingly-popular Strangelove Skateboards and had two Nike SB Dunk releases in 2020 alone. A pioneer in deck design, Cliverā€™s often offensive graphics tell stories through the medium of cartoon, pushing the boundaries of what your mother is going to allow you to hang on the wall.
