After originally rolling out in the US back in 2015, Europe had to wait a couple more years to get its hands on the SNKRS app. Since then, itās gone on to change the game, becoming an essential tool in any serious collectors arsenal.Ā
SNKRS Day on August 8th marks the third anniversary of the app arriving on our shores and while for many of us, itās brought nothing but pain and wild amounts of frustration – thereās no denying itās also been responsible for a big number of sought-after releases and restocks.Ā
Last yearās celebrations saw a number of āstash spotsā landing in major cities, with mass crowds gathering across London, Paris and Berlin in a desperate attempt to decipher cryptic clues and earn the chance to get their hands on super rare drops.Ā
With the effects of COVID-19 still being felt by so many, Paris is the only confirmed city to be featured this time. That means we can probably expect a much bigger focus placed on the digital side of things.
While Nike traditionally likes to keep things under wraps in the lead up to the day, this year weāve been given an early glimpse at a couple of spectacular-looking drops, taking the form of two brand new Air Max 1 colourways.Ā
So far, not much else has been confirmed, so we can only speculate at which of this yearās best releases might get restocked. If we had to hazard a guess, weād say Jordans are on the cards for sure, more specifically the hallowed Off-White versions of the Air Jordan 4 and 5 that proved to be immensely popular earlier in the year.Ā
Given the renewed pop culture relevance of the Jordan brand thatās been heavily fueled by the stunning Last Dance documentary, who could blame Nike for wanting to capitalise on the added interest in the already legendary style. With demand for Jordans skyrocketing in the last few months, punters could be given another chance to grab the Air Jordan 1 Obsidian and Air Jordan 1 High ā85.
Also being heavily rumoured are a few variations of the Dunk. Donāt be surprised to find the Travis Scott X SB Dunk Low, Ben & Jerry Chunky Dunky and Grateful Dead editions make fleeting appearances throughout the day.
This, of course, is all complete guesswork so far and Nike will undoubtedly have a number of surprises up its sleeve. With a number of high profile releases gracing 2020 already, the possibilities are endless. With that being said, itās definitely worth checking in on the app regularly throughout the day for hidden easter eggs and quickfire offerings.
For now, thereās not much else we can do, but look back at some of the best releases and restocks that the last couple of years of SNKRS DAY celebrations have brought us – and to once again remind ourselves of the rage that comes with missing out.
Sean Wotherspoon x Air Max 1/97 (2018)
The striking iteration of Nikeās classic silhouette has proved to be one of the brandās most grailed drops in recent memory.
Just when it seemed the model had vanished from retail for good, Nike threw app users one last lifeline to get their hands on the shoe in 2018, inevitably leading to A LOT of Ls.Ā
Nike Sacai LDWaffle (2019)
We mentioned those crowds rushing to Brick Lane Yard, this is just one of the reasons why.Ā
After the SNKRS app generated a geotag for certain users, they were directed to the London spot where they were granted access to purchase the Sacai take on the classic runner.Ā
Off-White VaporMax (2019)
50 of the appās top users were picked out to receive a very special gift last year, Virgil Ablohās Off-White version of the VaporMax.Ā Not bad, eh?Ā
Atmos Air Max Animal Pack (2018)
The collaboration with Japanese label Atmos remains a firm favourite, so when the Air Max Animal Pack was made briefly available once more, thereās no surprise that the drop was snapped up immediately.Ā
Parra Nike Air Max 1 (2018)
This shoe marked the first collaboration between Nike and the legendary Dutch brand in more than a decade, which made it an instant hit with collectors.Ā
The latest collaboration featured abstract interpretations of cityscape and landscape imagery printed on another of the most recognised swoosh silhouettes.Ā
Jordan 1 Not For Resale (2019)
The Not For Resales felt like a real āback to basicsā in terms of colourway, offering up one of the cleanest looks to a Jordan shoe in some time.Ā
Embellished with āNo Photosā on the heels, āWear Meā across the tongues and āPlease Creaseā stamped on each toe box, the design merged classic and modern in a pretty special way.
