Hometown heroes Patta have been holding down the Amsterdam scene since 2004. In that time, the Dutch imprint has collaborated with nearly every major footwear brand, including Vans, Air Jordan, Mizuno, and French walking-shoe specialists Mephisto. More recently, the Patta teamed up with New Balance for a fresh take on the made-in-UK 991 silhouette. This is Patta’s second collaboration with New Balance, following up on the Patta x New Balance 920 from September 2020.

Below, we hear from Patta’s Lee Stuart.

Patta has a few New Balance collaborations under its belt, how do you view the synergy between the two brands?

Even though we’ve only put out product with New Balance twice, we’d been collaborating with them on events for a while. They are one of my favourite companies to work with hands down. I’ve had the chance to visit the Flimby factory and that was a dream that didn’t disappoint. Straight good vibes. It’s basically a family business still and I believe this trickles down. The New Balance teams are an absolute pleasure to work with as well. They are people that like to work hard but also have fun while doing it, very much like Patta.

Explain the colour story of the recent 991 collaboration in your own words. How did you pick this colourway?

We like New Balance for its use of neutral colours, with small nuances where the taste level really shows. For our Patta x New Balance 991 we wanted to challenge ourselves and really break away from that, and come up with a colourway that is not neutral.
