It has been nearly 25 years since the first story from the wizarding world entered our culture. Now, a new generation of muggles are holding on to the hope that one day they receive their Hogwarts admission letter, while the rest of us are just happy to get the next installment in the Fantastic Beasts series. As the nostalgic anticipation for The Secrets of Dumbledore builds, we have put together a collection of our favorite LEGO Harry Potter sets under retail (at the time of publication) so that you can leave more galleons in your vault at Gringotts. Warning: This piece does include spoilers for the Harry Potter book series and movie series.
LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Set 71043
The LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle may only be a fraction of the size of the actual set designed for the films, but it is absolutely packed with just as many secrets and features. Construct the Great Hall complete with buildable stained glass windows, create the maze of moving staircases, and house the basilisk figure in the darkness of the Chamber of Secrets. The 6,020 piece castle is certainly a challenging build, but it provides hours of entertainment for a solo or group build that will have you pointing out references to the books and movies throughout the experience, or just playing out your own adventures by your own rules. In the last month, this LEGO Harry Potter classic has been trading for nearly $100 less than its original retail price.
LEGO Harry Potter & Hermione Granger Set 76393
Whether it is Neville Longbottom attempting to stand up to the golden trio in the Gryffindor common room, or Newt Scamander getting Jacob the collateral he needs to open his bakery, the theme of friendship echoes throughout both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series. The LEGO Harry Potter & Hermione set captures this theme quite literally by packaging two of the best friends in the wizarding world into a single set. It must be noted that Ron has been left out, which is perhaps LEGO not-so-subtly taking a stance on who really should’ve ended up together. While both models resemble a traditional LEGO Minifigure, their ten-inch size allows both to feature a lot more detail, especially in their hair, wands, and uniforms. This LEGO Harry Potter set includes two builds in one, so it is perfect to build with a partner of your choice as well. You can pick this set up today for around $40 below retail.
LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express Set 75955
Most of us Harry Potter fans have had the dream of running through platform 9 ¾ and hopping on the Hogwarts Express to UK’s finest academy for young witches and wizards. While this is destined to remain a dream, the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express set at least allows for the opportunity to build a shelf-sized model of this scene. Made up of 801 pieces and perfect for young builders, the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express includes the train engine and one passenger car with a removable roof so you can easily position up to five minifigures inside. The platform itself includes the railway bridger and clock as seen in the movies, as well as a swinging wall in between platforms 9 and 10 that you can push the Minifigures through to get to 9 ¾. This LEGO Harry Potter set is currently on backorder on the LEGO website, so not only can you get it for less on StockX, but you can get it faster.
LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Astronomy Tower Set 75969
Between 2018 and 2020, LEGO released four modular sets that can be combined together to create a larger Hogwarts playset that allows you to construct a piece of the wizarding world that can be as inclusive as you want, the collection includes the Whomping Willow 75953, Great Hall 75954, and Hogwarts Clock Tower 75948. The last set in this collection is the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Astronomy Tower, which is among the most iconic locations in the castle as it is where [SPOILER ALERT] Snape delivered the killing blow to Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Aside from the turrets of the tower, the 971 piece set includes the astronomy classroom, the Ravenclaw common room, Professor Slughorn’s office, and the potions classroom. With an average sale price of $60 on StockX, this set is an incredible deal as it retails for $100.
LEGO Harry Potter Attack on the Burrow Set 75980
While the Harry Potter film series did a pretty nice job staying true to the books, one glaring exception was in The Half-Blood Prince when director David Yates added in a scene where Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback attack the Weasley family and their guests at the Burrow. Whether you are a fan of this addition or not, the LEGO Harry Potter Attack on the Burrow set offers you a great replica model of the Weasley family home where you can roleplay. The kit comes complete with the Burrow’s crooked design that makes it appear as if it is held up by magic. Recently, the LEGO Harry Potter Attack on the Burrow set has dropped to around $30 below its $100 retail price.
