This week, Topps and Panini both drop acetate versions of classic sets, and Magic: The Gathering launches an official collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons. Read up on these trading card releases below.

This week, acetate cards take center stage with 2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball and 2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball. The worlds of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons collide for the cross-over set Adventures in the Forgotten Realm. Find out what else is on this week’s trading card release calendar in the latest edition of The Rip.

2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball

2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball

2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball continues the acetate card line that made its debut during the 2019-20 basketball card collecting season. The set uses the 2020-21 Panini Donruss Basketball card design and checklist that was released earlier in 2021 as its subject. The highlight of the checklist is on the several color variation parallels and Rated Rookie cards of the top players from the 2020 NBA Draft such as LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards. While autographs are part of the set, they are not the main focus as hobby boxes do not even guarantee you will get one.

The 2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball Hobby Box comes with five cards per pack, and four packs per box. According to Panini, each box should hold one insert, and three limited print run color variation parallels.

2020-21 Panini Clearly Donruss Basketball Hobby Boxes release on July 21st at online and local trading card hobby shops.

 2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball

2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball trading card releases

2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball utilizes the 2021 card designs found in Topps Series 1 and Series 2 Baseball adding an acetate finish to them. This higher-end set includes former and current MLB players with each card in the set featuring an autograph from that player. Mike Trout, Ronald Acuna Jr, Bryce Harper, Mariano Rivera, and Joey Bart are all included in the checklist.

Each 2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball Hobby Box holds one autograph card encased in a magnetic holder. 2021 Topps Clearly Authentic Baseball Hobby Boxes will release on July 21st at online and local trading card hobby shops. Currently presales are selling at $80-$90 per box.

2020-21 Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer

2020-21 Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer

2020-21 Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer reboots the product line, which has been absent from Topps annual trading card release calendar for years. The newest edition of Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer borrows the card design Topps used for the Merlin product line in 1996. The 2020-21 set holds a 100 card base set that includes fifteen different Refractor color variation Parallels, many of which you can only find in Hobby Boxes. Players who have made their UEFA Champions League Debut during the 2020-21 contest will have a rookie card shield added to their cards as well. You will be able to find rookie cards for players like Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.

The 2020-21 Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer Hobby Box comes with four cards in each pack, and 18 packs per box. Each Hobby Box should contain one Chrome Autograph, and also offers the chance to hit a limited print run, hobby exclusive Speckle, Green, Green Mojo Gold Atomic, and Red Refractor Parallels.

2020-21 Topps Merlin Collection Chrome UEFA Champions League Soccer will release on July 21st at online and local trading card hobby shops. Retail boxes such as blasters will also start hitting shelves wherever trading cards are sold such as Target and Walmart.

Magic: The Gathering: Adventures in the Forgotten Realm trading card releases

Magic: The Gathering: Adventures in the Forgotten Realm provides players of the celebrated card game with a Dungeons & Dragons crossover set. Both Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons are products of the Hasbro Toy Company, and the two teams worked hand in hand to create Adventures in the Forgotten Realm with cards featuring imagery and text inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG. Adventures of the Forgotten Realm is made up of 281 cards – 101 commons, 80 uncommons, 60 rares, 20 mythic rares, and 20 basic lands and includes premium versions of all cards inserted into random packs. The storyline takes place on the planet Toril that is inhabited by humans, dwarves, elves, goblins, and orcs. Adventures in the Forgotten Realm is not considered as part of the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse’s canon.

Magic: The Gathering: Adventures of the Forgotten Realm cards will be sold across several different products including Draft Booster Boxes, Collector Booster Boxes, and Set Booster Boxes. Collector Booster Boxes offer the best odds of landing rare aesthetically pleasing cards in the set such as foils, with five rares or mythic rares included in each of the 12 booster packs you will receive in the box. If you are looking to just have fun opening packs and building out the set, then the Adventures of the Forgotten Realm Set Booster Box is for you, as it includes 30 booster packs with each pack holding one to four rare or mythic rares, and one traditional foil card.

Magic: The Gathering: Adventures of the Forgotten Realm officially releases on July 23rd. Retail products such as Bundles and Commander Decks will also be available for the Magic: The Gathering: Adventures of the Forgotten Realm Dungeons & Dragons cross-over set.
