The gaming industry is dominated by a select few companies that manufacture everything from consoles, GPUs, operating systems, and even gaming accessories. Like most industries, it’s rare for a brand new company to enter the fray and almost immediately disrupt the marketplace but Finalmouse is doing just that. The small, upstart electronics manufacturer that puts craftmanship at the forefront of their brand ethos, is the antithesis of the conventional corporate reality, and you need to keep an eye on them.

Finalmouse creates one of the most important (and often overlooked) accessories PC gamers need to be successful on the virtual battlefield: the gaming mouse. Unlike controllers for consoles, gaming mice allow for endless combinations of movement and self-expression — acting as an extension of the user’s body to control the precision movements of a character in a video game. As long as you are capable of moving the mouse, it allows for a virtually unlimited range of motion, speed, and agility.

Unlike other manufactures, Finalmouse is solely dedicated to the art of the gaming mouse. Over the past few years, the company has exploded in popularity in the competitive gaming ecosystem in part due to the praise from Twitch streamers and the exclusivity of the mice, which are released in limited quantities. In many ways, the brand’s strategy seems to be more like a sneaker or streetwear brand, and less like a traditional consumer electronics company: leverage scarcity, secure influencer co-signs, and drive excitement and success with limited-edition colorways.

This combination has created hype around the brand that is unprecedented for a gaming mouse, cultivating a frenzy of fans eager to cop their very own Finalmouse.

There are a few Finalmouse variations that differ in weight, price, and connectivity (wireless and wired). The lineup includes the Starlight-12, Ultralight, and Air58 Ninja (named after Twitch streamer Ninja). Many Finalmouse mice are named after divine beings in Greek mythology, adding to the allure of the products.

Before you cop, here’s a guide to understanding the craze over Finalmouse.

How Much Is a Finalmouse?

You can’t discuss pricing of any popular consumer electronic product in 2022 without acknowledging the elephant in the room: the global semiconductor shortage that is halting the production of chips in everything from cars, PlayStations, graphics cards, and more. Because of shortages, consumer electronics have spiked in price throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

That said, Finalmouse mice retail at $189 for the wireless variations. The wired mice retail for either $89 or $120, depending on the model.

But finding a Finalmouse at the retail price is almost impossible, as the mice have consistently sold out immediately after release. Moreover, it seems likely that the constrained supply of Finalmouse products isn’t strictly a result of global shortages. Much like Yeezys and Supreme Box Logos, the mice are meant to be limited: scarcity is a feature, not a bug.

Thankfully, StockX carries every single Finalmouse release, albeit at a price premium. According to our data, the most expensive Finalmouse is the Finalmouse Starlight-12 Wireless Mouse (Hades King of the Dead), which has an average resale price of $442. A single Starlight-12 Hades King of the Dead mice sold for a high of $900 in May 2021, making it the most expensive mouse ever sold on StockX.

If that price point sounds a little too daunting, the wired mice are more affordable. The Finalmouse Ultralight 2 Capetown Gaming Mouse has an average resale price of $148 on StockX, or a 31% price premium. At a retail price of $120, this is the best mouse on StockX if you’re looking to purchase a Finalmouse without breaking the bank.

Across all versions and colorways, the average Finalmouse resells on StockX for around $310, with an average price premium of 75% over retail.

December 2021 was the most successful month for Finalmouse on StockX, with thousands of mice trading on the platform, and sales continue to be strong in the new year. Right now, there are two Finalmouse mice among the top 10 electronics products, making them the most popular gaming accessories on our marketplace.

It’s unheard of for a company specializing in just one product to compete on StockX with brands like NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, and Microsoft, but Finalmouse is breaking all expectations of what’s typical.

Why Is Finalmouse So Expensive?

Nothing about the design of Finalmouse mice is accidental. The mice are carefully engineered to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand with buttons that are tactile and responsive. Finalmouse mice are light — weighing no more than 71 grams and as light as 58 grams. The lightweight design means gamers can turn on a dime, producing fine movements in-game. Like a samurai with his sword, the gaming mouse is an extension of the body. It’s arguably the most important accessory for mouse and keyboard competitive gamers, so many gamers are justifiably willing to pay for premium design.

As Finalmouse once stated on their website: “Lighter is better. This isn’t subjective, it’s fact.” They continue:

“Isaac Newton figured this out with his law of inertia. Force = Mass x Acceleration. The lighter the mouse, the faster you move to your target.”

In April 2021, one of Twitch’s biggest streamers, summit1g, showcased his diamond-encrusted Finalmouse Starlight-12 (Ares God of War) during a Twitch stream. Like other notable streamers, the former professional CS:GO player has a dedicated fan base that will flock to cop the same gear as their favorite gamer. Even if fans can’t buy that exact 1-of-1 edition, the increased demand for Finalmouse products keeps prices high across the board.

Moreover, while the diamond-encrusted Finalmouse is a flex, it also represents how the company simultaneously embodies luxury and craftsmanship — two paradigms not often united in the competitive gaming ecosystem.

The Takeaway

Finalmouse is experiencing an unprecedented run of popularity in the PC gaming marketplace. Their mice, many of which are grandiously named after the mythical beings of Ancient Greece, continue to remain sold out at retail. This success is a testament to the company’s ability to compete against some of the biggest manufacturers of gaming mice.

Household name consumer electronics manufacturers like Razer, Logitech, and Corsair have dominated the gaming mouse marketplace for decades. Those companies, however, also manufacture other electronic products, making Finalmouse a dedicated leader in the industry.

With the help of great marketing by Twitch streamers and competitive PC gamers, Finalmouse has solidified itself as the quintessential expert for gaming mice. The small company manufactures dedicated products made for competitive gamers, by competitive gamers.

In competitive gaming, precision and accuracy are pivotal for success. A good mouse can make or break your experience on the battlefield. The gaming mouse is an extension of your body — the piece of hardware that bridges your brain’s complex thoughts to action on screen.

While the global semiconductor shortage has thrown the industry in limbo, 2022 will undoubtedly be a big year for Finalmouse so long as the brand continues to release cutting-edge mice.To shop our full Finalmouse catalog, click here.
