As Spring approaches (as slowly as possible) we’re gearing up for the 2018 edition of Baselworld, which opens its doors to the press on March 22nd. If you’re unfamiliar with Baselworld, here’s an ELI5 of the show: a watchfair featuring hundreds of brands from around the world, and their latest creations which will trickle out to dealers by summer and fall. This is the only such fair, so it’s a hotspot to see any and all new watch releases. Why is it called Baselworld? It’s named for its location, which is in the city of Basel, Switzerland. So, why should you care about it, and how can you follow along on all the releases? Read on, friend.
Baselworld has been a staple of the watch industry since it began in 1917. The show serves as a meeting point for members of the press, distribution partners, parts manufacturers, and even members of the public (usually 2 days after the press opening). It’s the one place you can walk the halls and see every new release slated for the year, and reminisce about the golden era of watchmaking (whenever that was) over schnitzel. All the biggest brands have a presence save for the Richemont Group, whose brands have their own fair each year in Geneva, SIHH.
The StockX watch team will not be present at this year’s show, however, thanks to our friends at Worn & Wound, you’ll still be able to find plenty of exclusive content direct from the show on our Instagram page and right here on our blog. Worn & Wound will be doing a takeover of our Instagram handle during the show, so be sure to follow along by following us right here, as well as Worn & Wound right here.
What are you hoping to see from your favorite brands this year? Head over to Instagram and let us know!
