The Nike HyperAdapt is the first sneaker available to the public in history that features auto-lacing technology. Sure, the Nike MAG has similar technology, but the HyperAdapt will be available to buy, where the Nike MAG would take some serious luck or loot to get a pair. Speaking of the technology, though, self-lacing, auto-lacing, or power-lacing, have all been tossed around but Nike calls it Electro Adaptive Reactive Lacing, or EARL for short. Side bar: which rapper will name drop EARL first? The Nike HyperAdapt’s lacing system works with a push of a button and features lights on the heel and midsole that illuminate while the power-lacing is doing its thing. The lighting system also serves as a battery indicator. Nike says the system will work for about two weeks before needing to be recharged. You’ll be able to tell how much juice your HyperAdapt has based on the color it illuminates while lacing. Blue is fully charged, yellow is losing juice and red means you need to get charged up. Basically, designers Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers thought of everything. Aside from the groundbreaking EARL technology, the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 features a smooth Cushlon-like midsole, while Flywire wraps around the midfoot. While the technology is new, it’s expected to be spread across Nike categories like basketball, running, training, etc. in the coming years, much like Air Max, Flyknit or any of the other groundbreaking technologies from Nike have in the past.
