The Lanvin Curb released in early 2021, and has since been worn and loved by cultural icons far and wide including Kid Cudi, Virgil Abloh, Travis Scott and more.
It’s boisterous, it’s luxury. 30 days in the Lanvin Curb, let’s get it…
Out of the Box
Made using premium materials including suede and Nappa leather, this is a sneaker designed more for a streetwear ensemble than an evening session at the skatepark.
The sneaker sits on a heavy duty cream and dark grey sole, with a light grey and beige upper made from super soft leather and suede that waves in sync with the chrome laces loops. Bright triple layered laces flood the front of the sneaker. Black rubber accents include heel tabs, toe box curbs and pull tabs on the fattest tongue you ever did see.
Most noticeably, the Curb’s DNA is heavily rooted in the classic skate shoe. With an overzealous injection in its stocky stance, super fat tongue and uber thick laces, one look will take you back to your teenage years rocking DC and Osiris.
Day One:
- The immediate reaction is bulky and heavy
- Solid build quality
- Beautiful materials – supple leather and firm rubber accessories
- Ginormous tongue initially feels too big when trying the shoe on
- The regular laces underneath needed a lot of loosening to even get my foot in
Day Four:
- Getting used to the fit and feel of the large tongue
- A really comfy shoe
- Starting to enjoy wearing these
- Baggy wardrobe required
Day Nine:
- Barely noticing the tongue anymore
- This sneaker just has a different feel and fit to it that becomes a new normal
- Really enjoying wearing them
- Looking forward to the next 3 weeks
Day Sixteen:
- Appreciating the quality and comfort as I reach the halfway point
- The fit is super snug and secure
- Feel like a well-made shoe with each step
- Enjoying styling these sneakers and surprised by how easy it has been considering their stocky build
- Still figuring out how best to tie and places the laces – looking a little messy
Day Twenty-Five:
- Signs of wear appearing subtly
- Due to the quality of the leather, worn areas appear in a marbling effect – predominantly on the toe box and laces loops around the ankle collar
- Overall the shoe is holding up very well and proving its worth
- Settled on tucking the laces inside
Day Thirty:
- Due a light clean
- I expect the suede and leather around the ankle collar to be a tricky area to clean from denim bleed etc
- Blown away by this sneaker and could happily continue wearing it everyday
For a premium designer sneaker, that originally retailed at $1050/£850, the past thirty days have been enjoyable in every aspect. Not only have they upheld expectations physically, in comfort and build quality, but as a solid silhouette in its own right. Thoroughly enjoyable to wear every day and style in various ways. The Lanvin Curb has excelled beyond what I imagined it to in this wear test and has found its place as a respectable sneaker in its own right.
Quality 10/10
Comfort 9/10
Style 9/10
If the Curb has been on your wishlist and you’re ready to invest in a pair of sneakers, from my experience this month, I’d definitely add a pair to your closet. The skate aesthetic may not be your vibe, but otherwise I can’t find fault with the Lanvin Curb – the Parisian fashion house have pulled inspiration beautifully and unashamedly while upholding it with beautiful materials and a striking stance.
