One of the more popular pieces from the special Fall/Winter 2017 collaboration collection, we see the black Supreme AKIRA Patches Hooded Sweatshirt. Supreme had access to AKIRA’s original artwork from the manga and key scenes were used in a variety of pieces. However most of the pieces only focused on one scene. The “Patches” Hooded Sweatshirt used two moments from the manga. In a fictional world set in a Japan that went through a large nuclear blast and World War III, corruption, gangs and drugs are part of daily living. But all things all tie in with AKIRA. And to find out how, you have to read the manga or watch the film. For this piece the familiar heavyweight cotton hooded sweatshirt with pouch packet was chosen as the base. On the front, woven in on the left chest is the “Pills” image. On the back Neo-Tokyo experiencing another big blast is added. On the hood the Supreme logo is embroidered in. A key piece of the collection, the Supreme AKIRA Patches Hooded Sweatshirt sold out quickly when it released online and at Supreme New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, London and Paris on November 2nd, 2017. Japan got their release on November 4th.
