Introducing...The StockX Sneaker Scoreboard

Jesse Einhorn

Senior Economist at StockX

Today we’re rolling out our weekly StockX Scoreboard for sneakers. The purpose of this feature is to give you, our readers and users, a snapshot view of the sneaker marketplace: what’s up, what’s down, what’s hot, what’s not. The featured table shows the Top 10 sneakers over the past 7 days, ranked in order of overall trade volume. The bars show the relative trade volume for each model. The average price is based on market activity for the past 7 days.

This week, the Air Max 97 UNDFTD Black dominated sales, holding the top spot for six of seven days in our timeframe. This is the third straight week this Air Max 97 has been the most traded sneaker on our marketplace. Sales volume was down considerably, with less than half as many sneakers sold this week compared to last. However, even that decline wasn’t enough to knock the Air Max 97 off the top of the leaderboard.

Second place belonged to the NMD Japan Triple Black. Sales of this shoe were up 32%, and it climbed 3 spots in the rankings from last week, when it placed 5th. Rounding out the top three was the Nike Air Max 97 UNDFTD White. Like the black version of  the Undefeated Air Max 97, it’s sister shoe, sales of the Air Max 97 White declined significantly (-76% from last week). It fell one spot on our leaderboard, from #2 last week to #3 this week.

Arguably the most interesting shoe this week was the  Yeezy Powerphase Calabasas Core White, which placed 5th in overall sales. This shoe was off our radar nearly all week. Then suddenly, on Thursday, it surged to the top our daily rankings. It’s always dicey to speculate on what moves the market; you can never know with 100% certainty what makes people buy or sell a given product on a given day. However, in this case, the cause seems pretty clear: on Thursday, news broke of a weekend restock, and sellers flooded the market looking to offload inventory before the price declined. As such, it’s unlikely we’ll see the Powerphase in the top 5 again next week.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter to receive a daily version of the scoreboard. And check back here each Friday for the weekly recap. We plan to roll out additional features in the coming weeks, such as Brand rankings and a Market Movers spotlight. You won’t want to miss it. Stay tuned!
