A small piece of the collaboration between Supreme and the estate of artist Martin Wong, the Supreme Martin Wong Ridge Street S/S Top is featured here. Like mentioned, the streetwear giant worked with estate of Chineses-American artist on an assortment of apparel, beanie and skateboard decks for the Fall/Winter 2019 season. Although we saw a couple of items early in the season, here we get a larger assortment of goods.
Born in San Francisco, Wong moved to New York in the late ’70s. His art background started on the west coast but was honed and refined on the east coast. Heavily influenced by his Hispanic-dominant neighborhood in the Lower East Side, he developed his artwork using his background in ceramic training. Experimenting and influenced by fellow artists like playwright Miguel Pinero, Wong became obsessed with codes of communication. Things like Zodiac constellations, calligraphy, newspaper headlines, and much more made their way into his art. All those items come into play on the “Ridge Street” art featured here. A combination of a few of his art pieces, the image is printed onto the front and back of an all-cotton jersey short-sleeved crewneck. Images seen include a beer can, his neighborhood, and gun’s bullet bouncing off a heart. The unique art piece will have strangers staring for all the details throughout. Released on November 14th, 2019 both online and in most physical store locations, the Supreme Martin Wong Ridge Street S/S Top retailed at $98. Head to the marketplace now to check out this piece or anything else from the collaboration collection.
