As part of their Fall/Winter 2017 collection, Supreme teamed up with the AKIRA franchise for a special collection. The light burgundy Supreme AKIRA Work Jacket is for the person who wanted to show their love for both brands. The Katshiro Otomo original story was a manga that ran from 1982-1990 that was created into a feature film in 1988. An acclaimed hit worldwide, AKIRA is often given credit for growing the popularity of Japanese animation worldwide. Influences of AKIRA can be seen in everything from other movies to music videos. The story is a vision of a future where humans with supernatural powers, government corruption and drugs are part of a alternate Japan. Supreme was allowed access to Otomo’s original artwork from the manga and they chose a handful or images to focus on. A light burgundy heavyweight cotton blend twill jacket was chosen as the base. The zip jacket includes a quilted liner to battle the colder months of the year. The work jacket was the perfect foundation to add two scenes with high impact from the manga. The front had the “Pills” scene embroidered onto the right chest. While the large “Neo-Tokyo” explosion image was used on the back. The rear hem features the co-branded logo based on the story’s original art. One of three colorways made, the light burgundy Supreme AKIRA Work Jacket sold out quickly when it released on November 2nd, 2017. If you missed out on the jacket head to the marketplace to see if your size is available.
