It is arguable that no one has been as influential in style as Virgil Abloh over the past few years. The overwhelming success of his OFF-WHITE brand and collaborations with Nike has disrupted the streetwear world.
From taking off overlays to writing on sneakers, Virgil was allowed to do things to Nikes that Nike had never allowed. These Dunks are definitely more reserved than some of his other sneakers. But it is kind of refreshing to see a classic Dunk colorway come back and get the Virgil treatment. The base University Red colorway stays about 90% the same. It gets a foam tongue and an orange tab on the swoosh. The big alteration are the crazy orange strings running around the shoe. On other sneakers, Abloh has used this design for the laces themselves. This time it is just strictly for design.
With the unrivaled simplicity and nostalgia of this Dunk colorway, it’s a different kind of special that it receives from the OFF-WHITE treatment. The Nike Dunk Low Off-White University Red originally released on December 20, 2019, at a retail price of $170.
