Part of the Supreme Fall/Winter 2017 collection came in the collaboration between the brand and Katsuhiro Otomo’s acclaimed AKIRA franchise. Originally a manga that ran from 1982 to 1990, before the series ended it was adapted to a feature film which released in 1988. That film is often named as one of the top animated movies, not just Japanese, of all time. It is also credited for starting the growth of anime globally. So the lead up to this collaboration was extreme. There was Fiat 500 created to advertise for the collaboration and even a website that leads to the Supreme site. The Supreme AKIRA Neo-Tokyo Long Sleeve is a small part of the entire collection of Supreme apparel. Starting off with a slate cotton long sleeve tee Supreme kept the front simple. There we see the AKIRA kanji name added in red over the Supreme name in capitalized bold font on the chest. The look pays homage to the film’s poster that has a similar look. The back of the tee features original artwork from the Otomo manga. The black and white scene depicts a moment when Neo-Tokyo is blown up, the origin being the Olympic Stadium. A dramatic scene anyone familiar with AKIRA will recognize it. One of five color options for the piece, if you want to grab the slate Supreme AKIRA Neo-Tokyo Long Sleeve now you can head to the marketplace to see if your size is available.
