Originally born on the West Coast after his venture into art Wong made his way eastward, landing in New York City. Heavily influenced by his Hispanic-dominant neighborhood in the Lower East Side, he developed his artwork using his background in ceramic training and prior stage work. Experimenting and influenced by fellow artists like playwright Miguel Pinero, Wong became obsessed with codes of communication. Things like Zodiac constellations, calligraphy, newspaper headlines, and much more made their way into his art. Imagery and the neighborhood that he was a part of became an integral part of his art pieces. Here we see an image of the Iglesia Pentecostal entrance. The address and gate are the details that stand out. You can imagine what thoughts or message that Wong is trying to share with the piece.
