The history of PUMA began with a squabble between brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler, but the company would soon garner support from sports enthusiasts and Olympic athletes. Rudolf Dassler already knew quite a bit about shoes before he founded PUMA in the 1940s. Mehr
He and his brother had owned a footwear company together for several years. The Atom was the first shoe to be released under the PUMA brand, and the company marketed it as a soccer shoe. It didn't take long for the company to start shaping up into what collectors know today, and 1956 saw the addition of the formstripe that has now become the staple of the PUMA logo. The signature cat icon was added to the shoes in 1967. PUMA has made only minor changes to its logo since then, and even shoes like the Trailfox Overland Ader that don't display a prominent cat still carry the name. Collaborations with professional athletes such as Boris Becker have resulted in collectible lines of sneakers such as the PUMA Becker Ace or standard PUMA Becker. PUMA is never afraid to push boundaries with shoe silhouettes or colorways, as their popular Clyde Court Disrupt South Beach or RS-X3 Rubik's Cube models attest.
