Dubbed The Hacker Project, Gucci x Balenciaga isn’t actually a collaboration in the truest form. The premise of the project is Gucci’s Alessandro Michele hacking some of the designs by Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia. The Hacker Project saw 74 pop-up locations throughout the world, instantly recognizable by the faux tagging of “Gucci” on the storefront of Balenciaga retail spaces. A key component of The Hacker Project is combining the iconic motifs from each luxury house into renowned pieces. For example, “Balenciaga” is written across bags with Gucci monogram prints, while “This Is Not A Gucci Bag” is printed in graffiti font on a Balenciaga tote.
