Since its first release in 2012, Panini Prizm Basketball has quickly become the set with the most demand in the sports card hobby. As a result, Prizm Basketball has become increasingly hard to find on retail store shelves in recent years. This increase in demand has come from the fact that the Prizm set holds what is considered the core rookie card for first-year NBA players in the modern trading card hobby. In fact, on average, Prizm rookie cards are worth 2.5x the same player’s rookie card in the next most valuable card set (that has a retail release). While you won’t find a $4.6 Million Luka Doncic card in this year’s Prizm basketball boxes, you could still find a rare Rookie card for players with a lot of upside like LaMelo Ball that could go for five or maybe even six figures.
Of course, over the last 12 months it has become nearly impossible to find any trading card products on store shelves. Card collectors have literally started camping out in the aisles of Targets and Walmarts waiting for the shelves to be restocked, just like sneaker fans started doing in the early 2000s, but that is the beauty of StockX: if you use StockX you can avoid the line and always find Prizm Basketball boxes.
The 2020-21 Prizm Basketball set that releases in March totals 300 cards in the base checklist, and will include rookie cards for the 2020-21 NBA draft class. This means a chance to find cards of the aforementioned Rookie of the Year front-runner LaMelo Ball, but it also includes cards for other top first-year performers such as Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, and many more. The set once again features the signature chromium look that has become synonymous with the Panini Prizm brand and offers collector’s the chance to find memorabilia cards, a wide variety of rare Prizm parallels, and even autographs from rookies, veterans, and NBA legends.
Panini has announced that 2020-21 Prizm Basketball 1st Off the Line and Hobby boxes will release on March 31, 2021, with retail products such as blasters and mega boxes showing up in retailers such as Target and Walmart around the same time, or shortly after.
