Emerging street-luxury brand, Beautiful Struggles, has delivered their own version of the jacket in the coveted style as a part of their Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Featuring a purple body with cream-colored sleeves and a contrasting orange logo, the Beautiful Struggles College Jacket is this week’s StockX Pick of the Week.
The Beautiful Struggles College Jacket delivers the traditional, buttoned-up varsity jacket in a slightly more relaxed and oversized styling. The single colorway of the jacket immediately stands out, presenting a luxurious purple body featuring a college-style Beautiful Struggles “BS” logo on its chest. From there, the jacket takes its design in a slightly less traditional direction, featuring several embroidered graffiti-like designs on the front and back. On the front chest, opposite the orange Beautiful Struggles logo, is a Basquiat-like crown, embroidered in white, and on the back of the jacket, the brand’s name can be found in a clearly handwritten font. In terms of materials, the Beautiful Struggles College Jacket’s exterior is made from Polyester, Viscose, and Elastane, and the interior is constructed of an orange, 100% polyester material.
Beautiful Struggles was founded in 2019 by Danny Williams, a former professional soccer player. Williams, who’s played as a starter in both Germany’s Bundesliga and England’s Premier League, was born in Germany where he’d go on to make his professional debut. As his professional soccer career came to a close in Cyprus, where he played for a Greek professional soccer team, he started his brand.
As a brand, Beautiful Struggles is aiming to position itself in the gray area that occupies the ever-converging worlds of streetwear and luxury. Through the contrast of high-end loungewear pieces and well-constructed luxury items, Beautiful Struggles is combining the depth of European heritage with flavors of modern-day American culture. This ethos comes as a reflection of Williams’ personal heritage as a German citizen born to an American father. So far, Beautiful Struggles is doing well in its effort to combine the world of European heritage and American culture. The brand made its debut at Paris Fashion Week late last year with an exclusive event.
The Beautiful Struggles College Jacket is a clear demonstration that the brand has its finger on the pulse of the culture. A number of significant brands from Stüssy and OVO, to Aimé Leon Dore and Louis Vuitton, have released popular jackets of the same style. This year, it looks like the varsity jacket just might be the must-have outerwear style of 2022, as these brands and many others continue to feature the piece in lookbooks and on the runway. As the year goes on, expect to see brands continue to place the style front and center.
