Maybe you’ve recently moved house, or maybe you’re just looking to level up your living space – either way, some new home furnishings can really revive a space. But you don’t have to go dropping thousands of dollars to make your space special – there are hundreds of pieces of modern art from the world’s most in-demand creatives that you can pick up for a steal.
Let’s jump into some of our favourite modern pieces for your home.
Virgil Abloh x Nike ICONS “The Ten” Something’s Off Book
You’ve likely seen this before, but let me tell you – it’s a must have for any current culture fan. It’s one of those books that you’ll look back on in 5 or 10 years and still be happy you bought it. Flick through it at your leisure, sit it on the coffee table, or stack it up with other classic art books – this will age beautifully.
The book highlights Abloh’s design process behind the iconic Nike collection that was released in late 2017. So whether you copped a pair of ‘The Ten’ or not, with this book you can still be part of sneaker history.
Supreme Burberry Skateboard Deck
Supreme have done so many collaborations, and lent their iconic box logo to so many products that we sometimes forget to acknowledge how incredibly valuable their brand is. When James Jebbia founded Supreme back in 1994, I don’t think anyone thought a New York skate brand would end up partnering with some of the biggest luxury brands in the world – but here we are.
To me, the Supreme Burberry Skateboard Deck isn’t just a skate deck. It’s modern art – it represents the opening up of luxury brands that have previously been considered exclusive and closed off. It’s also a ringing endorsement of the culture around Supreme, and a further legitimisation of skate culture – something that is still looked down upon by authorities around the world. It also reiterates to me that no matter how rich and successful people may get, they still just want to be young and cool. Amen.
Beyonce Renaissance Limited Edition 2XLP Vinyl
Arguably the most iconic and powerful musician of a generation, Beyoncé has repeatedly shaken up the music industry with her releases. Remember back in 2013 when she surprise dropped her 5th studio album (self titled) and broke the Internet? Remember the Formation World Tour? Actually, remember the video for Formation? (it won music video of the year in 2016). Or what about her Netflix documentary, ‘Homecoming’ that looked at her Coachella performance in 2018? Why am I listing all of these moments in her career? Because every single one of them is iconic.
And that brings us back to the Renaissance Limited Edition 2XLP Vinyl. If you’re talking about putting some art in your home – you have to have Beyoncé in the mix. And the Renaissance album is an unskippable masterpiece – it debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, just like her other 6 solo albums.
LEGO Technic McLaren Formula 1 F1 Team Race Car Set 42141
Speaking of a renaissance, Formula 1 went from something your dad watches to entertainment for the whole family thanks to Netflix’s ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ series. And this LEGO Technic McLaren Formula 1 F1 Team Race Car is a masterpiece of engineering that will remind you of your new favourite sport. There’s a reason almost 2,000 of these LEGO sets have sold on StockX in the last 12 months – this highly detailed and authentic looking F1 car was done in collaboration with McLaren Formula 1 Team. The set includes 1,432 pieces.
KAWS Chum Vinyl Figure Black (2022)
There’s not much left to say about KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly. He got his start back in New York in the 1990’s, ‘vandalising’ billboards and adding his own art to them. In the last 20 years he has become one of the most prolific and recognisable modern artists in the world, known for his larger than life artworks and range of characters – including the Chum, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
This marks the first time in 20 years this style of Chum figure has been available to fans of KAWS. The original black Chum figure was a signed edition of 1000 figures, while the 2022 release comes as an open edition. Each figure measures 11.6″ x 7.7″ x 3.5″ and comes with a protective KAWS branded box.
