10 of the Best AJ4 Colourways on StockX

Since first being crafted by the unparalleled imagination of Tinker Hatfield in 1989, the Jordan 4 has maintained status as a true icon both on and off the court.

The fourth release from MJ’s esteemed collection has its place permanently cemented in pop culture history, just as much as it does in basketballing folklore.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen countless impressive iterations of the style rolled out, from grailed reissues to breathtaking collaborations and beyond. The hype surrounding those drops has remained as fierce as ever, a testament to the legacy of MJ and the brand he’s helped create.

Given the influx of recent releases, we’ve run through some of the most popular AJ4s on StockX right now and handpicked ten of our standout favourites.

1. Jordan 4 Retro Lightning

The AJ4 Lightning first made its debut over a decade ago, way back in 2006. Its release was met with widespread acclaim, becoming an instant hit thanks to its unmistakable Tour Yellow colourway.

Fast-forward to August 2021 and the shoe has been brought back into the limelight via a re-release that, to the shock of absolutely nobody, has proved an overwhelming hit once more.

2. Jordan 4 Retro Fire Red

AJ4-retro-fire-red-2020Last year saw the return of undoubtedly one of the most recognisable and revered colourways of the AJ4, a drop that was quickly met with pandemonium among collectors and casuals alike.

The revival of the legendary Fire Red was made that bit more special by the inclusion of the Nike Air logo on the heel tab, making it the first time this colourway had reverted back to the 1989 original.

3. Jordan 4 Retro SP 30th Anniversary Union Desert Mossair-jordan-4-retro-sp-30th-anniversary-union-desert-moss

To mark Union’s 30th birthday celebrations, the LA-based fashion store revived its partnership with the Jordan Brand and delivered yet another eye-catching take on the AJ4.

This time around, a desert suede-dominated upper is complemented by contrasting splashings of striking turquoise and purple. Subtle “Union LA” woven tabs feature on the lateral side to finish off another successful meeting of the two.

4. Jordan 4 Retro White Oreo

Things are massively stripped back for the White Oreo, delivering a crisp, clean and classic look which makes outfit pairing a completely painless process.

White leather and mesh, along with small helpings of tech grey form a deliciously neutral upper, with the iconic red Jumpman logo stamped proudly in its usual spot on the tongue, offering a rare pop of colour.

5. Jordan 4 Retro Off-White Sailair-jordan-4-retro-off-white-sail-w

Jordan Brand and Virgil Abloh teamed up once again to release the third silhouette in their collaborative history with the women’s Jordan 4 Retro Off-White Sail.

After teasing the release of the Off-White 4 with samples in his MCA exhibit and presenting them in his Off-White FW2020 Women’s Show in 2019, Abloh and Jordan finally delivered one of their most coveted releases in July the following year. The Air Jordan 4 Sail features full-grain leather uppers with hits of mesh and translucent materials on the toebox and heel of the shoe. From there, hits of light blue on the tongue’s Jumpman and the outsole’s Nike Swoosh provide contrast to the sail coloured sneaker.

6. Jordan 4 Retro University Blue

Without a doubt, one of the biggest releases from the Jordan catalogue this year—and it’s pretty easy to see why.

Decking any Jordan out in the classic UNC Powder Blue is a surefire way to make it an instant hit, throw in the staple speckled cement overlays and well, the results speak for themselves.

7. Jordan 4 Retro PSG

When French footballing royalty, Paris Saint-Germain linked up with the Jordan brand, the collaboration immediately became one of the most talked-about in both the sporting and fashion worlds.

The palette is perhaps surprisingly dialled-back somewhat, though the Bordeaux trim offers a stunning contrast. The shoe is packed with lovely little touches too; “Paname”, a nickname for Paris, is woven into the tab and the heel features a reworked PSG x Jumpman logo.

8. Jordan 4 Retro Black Cat

The Jordan brand waited 14 long years before bringing back the mid-2000s classic, with the 2006 Black Cat colourway remaining frustratingly shelved until last year.

The monochromatic silhouette, spawned from one of MJ’s nicknames, stays true to the original. Blacked out nubuck suede, overlays, netting and trim merge wonderfully for a stealthy, immensely popular take on the seminal shoe.

9. Jordan 4 Retro SE 95 Neon

What better way to celebrate Air Max month, than by dressing the Jordan 4 in the iconic neon colourway so synonymous with the Air Max 95?

Bright volt detailing and white netting meets gradient greys and reflective Air Max heel branding, topped off with a two-tone tongue, which sees that distinct neon take over half of the Jumpman logo—a more than worthy tribute.

10. Jordan 4 Retro Golf NRG Seersucker

Ahead of the PGA Championship, the Jordan Brand turned to the golf course and summer patterns for inspiration, resulting in this charming drop that unsurprisingly sold out almost instantly.

Pink-tinged, traditional seersucker upper meets Sail and Apricot Agate trim to create a unique, vintage-looking take on the classic silhouette. It wasn’t just the AJ4 that got the golf treatment either, with Nike also dressing the Air Max 90 in a similar seersucker pattern as part of the capsule.
