Over the last few years, Stüssy has established a full roster of high-profile recurring collaborators. The California streetwear brand has anchored its weekly apparel and accessory releases in collaborative partnerships that have consistently returned season after season. Their highest profile partner, and most frequent collaborator has been Nike, who Stüssy has released collections with at least twice a year since 2020. Additionally, the streetwear brand has consistently released collections with Swedish luxury brand, Our Legacy, Birkenstocks, and Cactus Plant Flea Market. Their most recent collaboration revisits their partnership with Nike, delivering an Air Max 2013 collection that features a highly sought-after 8-Ball T-shirt.
For the second time in just over a month, Stüssy has released a collaborative apparel item that gives their partner the opportunity to alter their trademarked 8-Ball logo. After collaborating with Cactus Plant Flea Market on a bright blue 8-Ball Hoodie in July, the design has been revisited by Nike. Released officially as a part of the two brands’ Nike Air Max 2013 collection, the Nike x Stüssy 8-Ball T-shirt makes for one of the duo’s most iconic collaborative pieces ever.
The Nike x Stüssy 8-Ball T-shirt was made available in just one colour, white, and features the collaborative logo on both the front and back of the shirt. The logo features a larger Stüssy brand mark above a glossy 8-Ball with a Nike Swoosh replacing the number 8. Originally teased as a part of the two brands’ initial announcement, the t-shirt was officially confirmed earlier this week to the delight of both Nike and Stüssy fans.
The full Nike x Stüssy Air Max 2013 collection included three different colourways of the Nike Air Max 2013 and ten different apparel pieces. Though the 8-Ball T-shirt is the most exciting apparel piece to drop as a part of this collection, it’s the Air Max 2013s that have taken centre stage. The sneakers feature inverted Nike Swooshes alongside printed Stüssy logos and tonal details on the shoe’s mesh/netting uppers. Other significant apparel pieces from the release include a Hemp Pullover Jacket in Stüssy and Nike’s frequently utilized Fossil colourway and a colourful Long Sleeve Mock Neck T-shirt.
Nike and Stüssy have been collaborating for a long time, with Stüssy, in fact, being one of the first apparel brands to collaborate with the Swoosh. Their first official collaboration took place in 2000 with the release of an exclusive Huarache and since then the two brands have partnered sporadically throughout the years. More recently though, the pair made their collaboration a more regular occurrence. Beginning in 2020 with their first release being made available just after the onset of the Covid pandemic, the pairing has released a number of collaborative apparel and sneaker collections. Their collections frequently touch on and revisit iconic Nike sneakers like the Huarache, Air Force 1, and Nike Air Zoom Spiridon. From the apparel point of view, Nike and Stüssy have released several collections, most of which feature co-branded basics that combine relaxed and athletic styles. To date, the most popular sneaker from the collaboration has unquestionably been the Nike Air Force 1 Low in the Stüssy Fossil colourway. From an apparel perspective, the two brand’s recent Peace, Love, Swoosh T-shirt has been a popular style, although the first crewneck ever released as a part of the partnership, the Nike x Stüssy NRG BR Crew Fleece is the most popular of all time.
