Staying ahead of the latest cultural trends can be exhausting. You need to follow the right accounts and decipher the good from the bad in this cultural amalgamation that is the internet. Luckily for you and I thereā€™s people like Jilly Hendrix to do the heavy lifting for us, and better yet, make us laugh in the process. Prior to content, you probably heard her co-hosting the ā€œLady Lovinā€ podcast or DJing parties for the likes of adidas and Louis Vuitton. So now that staying inside is the hottest trend of 2020, howā€™s she adjusting and keeping herself entertained? Read up to find out.

Describe what you do for a living and how youā€™re adjusting to social distancing.

Iā€™m a writer and make comedic content about the latest cultural trends on my social @JillyHendrix.Ā I am also in the process of pitching a TV project among a few other things which is challenging to get work off the ground during this time, so mainly just trying to make ppl laugh on my IG.

During this time of social distancing, people are leaning on things such as streaming services, puzzles, at-home workout classes, etc. What activities are you using to take your mind off of things?

Iā€™ve been doing a lot of at-home workouts with friends over Zoom. Weā€™re doing group training classes with Allyson Gottfried, which is fun because you can just wave at your friends. Also taking Tracy Anderson online classes. Her arm workouts are THE BEST. Working out is pretty much the only thing keeping me sane.

What is keeping you grounded/balanced at the moment?

Iā€™m not super into meditation because Iā€™m trying not to learn anything else about myself, but my friend suggested Deepak Chopraā€™s 21 day meditation which I started last week and am now doing every morning. Just listening to his voice makes me relaxed and then I head into the day with less anxiety. That and a lot of baths. Like 2 a day.

How do you stay connected to friends and family during this time?

A few social distancing walks. A lot of FaceTime! Some friends and I are watching the same TV shows at the same time. So itā€™s like weā€™re together? Iā€™m obsessed with Lil Dickyā€™s show DAVE on FX/Hulu and Unorthodox on Netflix.

How do you typically start your day? What daily rituals are you practicing?

Iā€™m walking about 5 miles a day, in addition to online workouts and meditations. Iā€™m a social person and I love working in public places, itā€™s where I get my inspo. For me, I need to really work on keeping my mental state up so I can still be productive during this time.

How are you staying productive while at home? Any useful tips?

All of the above. I think working out helps add the most structure to your day. I would say if you find yourself on a new schedule than normal just go with it. Iā€™m enjoying messing around in the AM and then working/writing from 5-12AM.

What advice would you give to someone whoā€™s struggling in isolation right now?

Text your friends ā€œI feel lonelyā€ when you do. They will reach out to you and just knowing you have that support system will make you feel better. Watch Bill Hader clips on YouTtube. DONā€™T GO ON TWITTER. Donā€™t hold back from crying. Thereā€™s no need to try and be tough right now. Feel your feelings.

What accomplishment or new project are you most proud of while social distancing?

I actually just started writing my first scripted pilot about my time as a DJ. Itā€™s giving me something to look forward to each day and Iā€™m really hoping to finish it by the time this ends!

What are you most looking forward to once this is over?

Getting dressed in a look and going out to dinner with all my friends – ordering some amazing pasta and wine, not leaving til the restaurant closes!!! I normally hate touching people but I think this is the year I will learn how to hug.
