Kith is no stranger to collaborations, but the New York streetwear brand is venturing into a growing, untapped market. For their most recent collaboration, Kith partnered with one of the golf world’s most recognizable brands, TaylorMade. Unabashedly geared toward golfers looking to get their hands on high-quality, limited-edition gear, the collection featured more than 50 apparel items and 20 accessories. Additionally, the partnership included custom clubs, from TaylorMade’s popular Stealth Plus Carbonwood Driver to an entire set of collaborative irons. The majority of the collection’s apparel was made specifically for the course and one of the most popular pieces from the partnership is the Kith x TaylorMade Tap In Jersey.
The Kith x TaylorMade Tap In Jersey combines the best of both brands, and the worlds they occupy. The collaborative jersey takes the Kith brand’s affinity for soccer – as displayed by their partnerships with adidas and EA Sports – and fuses that influence with the more traditional golf shirt. The product of this combination is a golf shirt that features a classic soccer jersey collar construction with a striped rib featuring both brands logos on the front and back. Though its design deviates from the traditional golf shirt, Kith’s TaylorMade Tap In Jersey and its soccer-inspired twist will be a fun addition to any golfer’s wardrobe.
Though it’s not confirmed, Kith’s partnership with TaylorMade is one that will likely continue into the future. In the announcement for the partnership, Kith communicated that this would be their first installment with TaylorMade, implying that there will be more in the future. As a brand, Kith is no stranger to recurring collaborations, having delivered multiple releases with names like Coca-Cola, Disney, adidas, and more.
The lookbook released by Kith for the collaboration with TaylorMade also featured a familiar face for those inside and outside the world of golf. Two-time NBA Champion and basketball player-turned college golfer J.R. Smith was featured in the brand’s lookbook and promotional material. Smith famously retired from the NBA after winning a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020 season and went back to school on a college golf scholarship. He currently plays for North Carolina A&T State University and was awarded the North Carolina A&T Academic Athlete of the Year for 2021-2022 where he finished the year with a 4.0 GPA.
Kith’s collaboration with TaylorMade makes the brand one of the most recent streetwear labels to partner with a major player in the golf world. Since the beginning of 2020, the sport of golf has been exploding, marking the largest period of growth in the game since 1997. In 2021, the sport’s popularity continued to grow, with recorded rounds of golf increasing by 4% to 5%. This growth has worked its way deep into the consciousness of streetwear, with golf-influenced apparel brands popping up in droves over the last few years. Last year, Drake partnered with Nike to deliver NOCTA’s first sport focused collection, which was totally centered on golf.
StockX has also staked a claim on the golf world, partnering with Malbon Golf earlier this year for Divots in the Desert, an invitational at the pristine Indian Wells Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California. Additionally, the partnership played host to a number of burgeoning golf brands through our DropX platform. Partners for the event included Malbon, Macklemore’s Bogey Boys, Students Golf, Whim Golf, and Quiet Golf and sponsors included Lobos, TaylorMade, Topgolf, and Therabody.
With future installments of the Kith x TaylorMade partnership still to come, it’s likely that the sports permeation of the streetwear world has still only just begun. Buy & Sell the Kith x TaylorMade Tap In Jersey on StockX below.
