For the streetwear world, August was a return to something a little more normal than the non-traditional pandemonium of releases we’ve been seeing since May. With Supreme and Palace returning to their regular drop schedules and people like Travis Scott and KAWS taking a little bit of a break, August felt fast-paced but in a way far more familiar than June or July. Although we didn’t see some of our Needle Movers big hitters return, Nike and Spongebob delivered a collection that went crazy and Fear Of God’s Essentials line was able to step up and deliver something special for us as well. Scroll down to check out everything we added this month at StockX and don’t forget to click the images to shop.
Spongebob Kyrie
An unlikely subject took both the sneaker and streetwear world by storm in August, SpongeBob SquarePants. Everyone’s favorite childhood cartoon character (opinion, but not really), was the subject of a collaboration with Nike Athlete and Brooklyn Net’s star, Kyrie Irving. The collection featured both sneakers and apparel centered around each of the major characters featured on the show (SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick The Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy Cheeks). The collaboration did big numbers on both the streetwear and sneakers front, providing a perfect fix for anyone that couldn’t hold out for most of the month until Supreme. Highlights from the apparel release are featured below and the entire drop can be shopped here.
FOG Essentials Photo Gear
Supermalls rejoice, Starcourt doesn’t have to close because Pacsun is determined to carry everyone else on their back. Fear Of God’s Essentials line dropped more quick-to-sell-out pieces last month through the super mall mainstay that near instantly did numbers on StockX. Like the above, highlights have been featured below and the whole drop can be shopped here.
Off-White Collaborations
While Virgil Abloh has certainly slowed down since his incredibly busy months of May and June, the designer’s not leaving us out to dry entirely. Upon opening his “Figures Of Speech” exhibit in the museum in June, he also opened a pop-up shop, named “Church and State” at the end of the exhibit. Mr. Abloh added several new items to the merchandise offering including an MCA-exclusive Off-White Industrial belt and a collaborative tee with New York Artist, Futura. Virgil also collaborated with the legendary Hiroshi Fujiwara on two collaborative Off-White x Fragment tees which released at Fujiwara’s The Conveni Shop in Ginza. The highlights of Mr. Abloh’s August activity can be shopped below and everything dropped at the MCA this summer can be browsed on StockX here.
Kid Cudi Rose Tee
Kid Cudi released a single tee last month with the increasingly popular folks over at Cactus Plant Flea Market who seem to have taken a spot as the artist’s resident merch designers. The tee references Mescudi’s popular song, Rose Golden (feat. Willow Smith) from his 2016 album “Passion, Pain & Demon-Slayin’”. The back of the shirt features the date August 3rd, 2019, the date the shirt was released as well as the date he played a show at Auto Club Speedway near Los Angeles. Shop the tee on StockX above.
Psychworld
The mystery shrouded brand Psychworld also dropped several new items during the month of August, including a small collection of tour merch for hip hop artist, Trippie Redd. The release follows similar themes of the brand and implements several unconventional tie dye colorways. Everything Psychworld dropped in August can be shopped on StockX here.
Tie Dye Nike Polo
Nike jumped on the tie dye train on their own in August releasing several colorways of a tie dye polo that sold out instantly. The three polo’s can be shopped on StockX here or by clicking the image above.
