With the Nike Air Force 1 Black Skeleton and Nike SB Dunk Low Night of Mischief as part of this month’s releases, it’s no surprise that Nike is embracing Halloween season once again. Over the years, Nike has gone all out in efforts to instill the spirit of Halloween in their shoes. Whether the inspiration is straight from a Jack-O-Lantern or derived from common costume favorites, Nike has created a lot of spooky colorways. With so many sneakers to choose from, which ones are the best? What started as a debate over here at StockX World HQ turned into a ranked list of some of our favorites. After compiling an assortment of selects, we found a common ground that is The Top 10 Halloween Inspired Nikes.
10. Nike SB Dunk High Unlucky
This one was a close call, but due to Friday the 13th occurring just last month, the Nike SB Dunk High Unlucky makes the cut at #10. In areas where this shoe lacks eccentricity, it makes up for in detail. The varied black leathers on the upper held together with a yellow contrasting stitch and completed with a subtle “13” embroidery on the side toe box make this shoe a silent killer. If only we received a pair of these everytime we struck out on the SNKRS app.
9. Nike Air Force 1 Low Frankenstein
It’s alive! The Nike Air Force 1 Low Frankenstein comes in at #9, personifying the monster of Dr. Frankenstein in the classic silhouette of an AF 1. This sneaker was released in 2006 and it’s not hard to tell. The mid-2000s were a time when Nike fell in love with all patent leather Air Force designs. The “Frankenstein” features a tonal green patent upper drawing inspiration from the skin of the monster. A metallic swoosh representing metal neck bolts and a stitch-like embroidery on the toe box complete this design, making it Halloween classic.
8. Nike SB Dunk Low Pure Blood
In honor of the time we spend trying to get the fake costume blood off of our clothes and away from our sneakers, we chose the Nike SB Dunk Low Pure Blood to enter our list at #8. This shoe screams Red October without the metal hardware or Yeezy moniker. And considering this shoe released in 2003, is it too much to assume this colorway could have inspired Kanye to cover his Yeezy 2 silhouette in red? We will let you be the judge of that.
7. Nike SB Dunk High Jason Voorhees
If you’ve ever passed out candy on Halloween, the chances that you have seen a visitor wearing a hockey mask and carrying a prop machete are pretty high. The Nike SB Dunk High Jason Voorhees pays tribute to one of the most iconic Halloween characters of all time and for that, this shoe made our list at #7. Being that this Dunk High released in 2007, the number of deadstock pairs of this shoe is just as scarce as the number of survivors in the Friday the 13th films. This shoe is considered one of the best SB Dunk Highs to ever release and its hype will remain immortal, just like Jason himself.
6. Nike Blazer Mid Off-White Hallow’s Eve
The Nike Blazer Mid Off-White Hallow’s Eve has been one of the most hyped Halloween releases in recent years. The continued rise in value and sales have landed this Blazer at #6 on our list, just shy of the Top 5. With just over 4300 sales, this Off-White Blazer has averaged a resale price of $608 and premiums of 368%. Featuring a Jack-O-Lantern themed palette and Virgil Abloh’s name attached, this shoe was destined for hype.
5. Nike Air Force 1 Low White Skeleton
The Nike Air Force 1 Low White Skeleton cracks our Top 5 against all odds. Yes, this is a general release. Yes, this AF 1 came out of nowhere and has done extremely well in the aftermarket. Nobody expected this, but the design speaks for itself. The X-Ray inspired graphics on both sides of the upper are perfect for the season, as well as any time of the year. This shoe has been reselling for as high as $330 and has been consistent in sales since this time last year when it was released. Obviously Nike felt good about the reception of this shoe because they are releasing a second installation of this Air Force 1 in Black. Could the new Black Skeleton Force 1 change the bad stigma surrounding Black Air Force 1s? Stay tuned.
4. Nike Blazer Mid Off-White Grim Reaper
Although this is part of Nike and Off-White’s “Spooky Pack”, the Nike Blazer Mid Off-White Grim Reaper is an essential shoe that can be worn year-round, no questions asked. They are a proper choice to wear to your friends Halloween party, or just to wear any other day of the week. You can’t go wrong with a classic black Blazer detailed with a white Swoosh. We aren’t the only ones who feel this way. Over 5000 orders of this Blazer have been completed on StockX since their initial release and their value has steadily increased over time. They say the only thing certain about life is death, but what’s also certain is that these Grim Reaper’s won’t lose value any time soon.
3. Nike SB Dunk Low Day of the Dead
The Nike SB Dunk Low Day of the Dead holds a special place in every SB-head’s heart. This shoe was released especially for El Dia De Los Muertos, which is the Day of the Dead in Spanish. This celebrated day is the equivalent of America’s Halloween in Mexico, although it also serves as a day for mourning those who have passed. This Dunk Low has been the inspiration behind six other Nike releases, including this year’s “Day of the Dead” Pack. Even though the “Day of the Dead” Lows are almost 14 years old and scarce in deadstock condition, they remain in circulation. In the last week, two pairs have sold on StockX at an average price of $2,450. Legends truly never die.
2. Nike Air Foamposite One Paranorman
The Nike Air Foamposite One Paranorman has been one of the most elusive releases Nike has had in the last decade. This shoe was created in anticipation of Lakai Studio’s Paranorman, an animated film about a young boy with the ability to speak to the dead who must use his paranormal abilities to save his fellow townspeople from a zombie apocalypse. 800 pairs of this Foamposite were made and the only way to receive a pair was by entering a “weirdest photo contest”. This contest required participants to post a weird photo of themselves from their childhood on Twitter and tag #WeirdWins. Winners were chosen under the radar and the legend that is the Paranorman lives on.
1. Nike SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger
At the top of our list is none other than the Nike SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger. Just like the Nightmare on Elm Street, this is a shoe that many of us will only get to experience in our dreams, making it the greatest Halloween-inspired Nike of all time. This is a sneaker we feel is an embodiment of those scary movie marathons that play non-stop during the month of October. To capture the cinematic feel, this Dunk Low features an upper comprised of a Freddy Krueger inspired striped-sweater knit material with blood-splattered leather overlays and a metallic Swoosh to complete it. With the most recent sale being at $7,000, all signs point to a continued increase in the value of this 12-year-old SB. We can only hope that one day, the Freddy Kruger Dunk leaves our dreams and ends up in our reality.
