Big Sean will perform a free concert this Tuesday, June 19, in honor of Ford Motor Company’s purchase and planned reclamation of the iconic Michigan Central Station, in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood. Once a jewel of the Detroit cityscape, the train station had become a monument to urban decay over the last several decades. Now, like the rest of the city, it is experiencing a vibrant revival.
Ford’s return to downtown Detroit is an exciting new chapter in Detroit’s story of rebirth, and Big Sean is coming back to take part in the story and celebrate his hometown.
In honor of Big Sean supporting Detroit, we’re taking a look back at Big Sean’s relationship with and steadfast support of BAPE.
In 2014, Big Sean became the first rapper to perform at the White House. Big Sean and Ariana Grande performed a rendition of their collab, “Right There,” at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Not only did Big Sean make hip-hop history, he did it wearing BAPE. (It may well have been the first time any person of any kind wore BAPE at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue).
Big Sean rocked the BAPE Shark Hooded Varsity Jacket onstage, and brought some BAPE 1st Camo Shark Hoodie heat to the White House front lawn.
You may never get invited to perform at the White House, but you can look like you did.
Big Sean has been repping BAPE since his “Mr. Incredible” days. By 2015, he started showing up in BAPE eMook catalogs.
