Pictured above is a vintage Rolex GMT (ref. 1675) on the wrist next to a new Sea-Dweller (ref. 126600). If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between modern watches and their vintage counterparts, well, here it is. Just like cars (and people?), things seem to get a little bigger with each generation. Unlike cars, watches aren’t chasing evolving safety standards. So what gives? Trends in fashion have changed quite a bit since the 60’s and 70’s, (you can tell by the clothing we wear) and what you see on the right is the result of what buyers are asking for. Enjoy.
And if you’re curious after reading this article about finding a watch that fits, the GMT on the left is 40mm, while the Sea-Dweller on the right is 43mm.
