Urwerk has officially revealed their latest creation after weeks of teases, and it doesn’t disappoint. Dubbed the UR-100 Space Time, the newest Urwerk builds on the brands trademark use a “wandering hours” display, adding 2 novel complications that earn the watch its Space Time name. All Urwerks are unique, but these aren’t complications you’ll find on any other watch.
The UR-100 keeps time via rotating hour numerals, appearing here in 3 domed discs, each with 4 numerals that rotate into position to reveal the time. At their tips are red pointers that track the minutes along a fixed track. The orbital motion is entirely visible through the sapphire crystal, adding a real sense of drama to the experience of reading the time.
The pair of unique complications utilize the two red tips not reading off the minutes, tracking measurements within a pair of apertures on either side of the dial. On the left, the measurement being tracked is the rotation of the earth, measured in kilometers, every 20 minutes. That distance is 555 kilometers. On the right, the arrow tracks the distance traveled by the earth in its orbit every 20 minutes. That distance is 35,740 kilometers. Space and time, measured together in harmony. How you use those measurements is up to your own creativity.
Generally, the creations of Urwerk, while stunning architecturally, are less than wrist friendly. The UR-100 however, is sized at 41mm in diameter, under 50mm in total length, and 14mm in thickness. All told, this is a watch that should wear with relative ease. Inside the watch beats the Urwerk caliber UR12.01, featuring a trick low profile turbine to minimize overwinding.
The UR-100 Space Time is offered in titanium and stainless steel, each being limited to just 25 examples. The price comes in just under $50,000.
